Loose Slag from The Still Mill

- As Ive noted all season, Cheesenhunt absolutely loves throwing to Miller on 1st down.Conversely, on 3rd down, Cheezen despises it.4 passes were thrown to Miller this past Sunday; 1 on 1D, 2 on 2D, and 1 on 3D. Struggling, 2-5 teams need to do something different.A good start would be to integrate Miller into the 3rd down offense, and much more than his current use as just a blocker that might get thrown a valve dump if the QB is under duress.

- As an astute reader, Trippertux, wrote to me this week -- Precisely how does a team come off an historic run for a SuperBowl Title as thoroughly unprepared, uninspired, sloppy, lethargic, and staggeringly stupid as this one has??Excellent question.!! And it all starts at the top.

- Humorous question posed to Ted Douchette in his daily Q&A column:

Question: In order to keep the score of the Denver game down to where it is manageable, should the offense always punt on first down?

DOUCHETTE: That was a famous suggestion by quarterback Bubby Brister, who made a speech in New Kensington, Pa., for a beer company during the 1988 season, one in which the Steelers started 2-10 and finished 5-11, the most pathetic season I've ever covered. Perhaps the Raiders never would have scored Sunday had the Steelers punted on first down every time the offense got the ball. At least they would not have scored their only two touchdowns the way they scored them, on interception returns.

Heres the sad reality.were we to punt every time on offense, wed still give up 20-some points. Our coverage teams suck ass so badly that the opponent would either score, or set up his offense for some easy FG or TD drives.

- Has anyone, uh, seen The Most Feared Man in the NFL, Big Joey Porter lately?

- Theres already blather and poppycock being bandied about regarding the Stillers short-yardage running game.Ted Douchette, ever the Bettis lover, is leading this charade, but there are a cast of thousands blindly following the dimbulbed Douchette. The basic theory is essentially this:If Big Jerome Bettis were still a Steeler, the Steelers would have NEVER been stopped short in the 4Q of this Raider loss. And its patent bullshit.Big Jerome was such a sure thing on short yardage, that he had these failures, among a long litany of short-yardage failures:

 - Jan 2005 AFC Div Playoffs versus Jets, stopped stone cold on 4th & 1, and also coughed up the ball.

- Jan 2006 AFC Div Playoffs versus Colts, stopped stone cold on 1st & goal at the 1, and coughed up the ball.

- Sup Bowl 40, given not one, but TWO cracks from the Seattle 2-yard line, stopped STONE COLD. On 3D, Ben Roth had to lug the ball in for the TD.

- A 6-pack of beer to the first person that can recount a single half-decent play, since the Miami game, that was made by The Big He-man, Joey Porter

- As noted, as each day passes by, it becomes more and more apparent that Stillers won Sup Bowl XL in spite of Billy Cowher, not because of Billy Cowher.
