Stat Compilation from Week 1        By CK Stiller

This a stat compilation from week 1, against the Dolphins. I wanted to track more specific statistics for Steelers players on things that people often argue about. For instance, how often is a certain defender blitzing, and how often is he successful? How many sacks did a linemen give up? Hurries? It is fairly time consuming, and I did it alone. I'm looking for anyone who would be willing to help out in keeping track of some things. You just need to have a copy of the game, and be willing to spend some time. If you're interested in helping out, contact me at Cksteeler@hotmail.com. I'll be doing this each week, and since I'm starting late, I'm clearly behind. Hopefully I'll have the Jaguars done next week, and then the Bengals during the bye, which should allow me to be caught up.

Team Pass Defense ATT CMP PCT YDS YPA TD INT
Short Passes 16 11 50 119 7.4 0 1
Intermediate Passes 11 7 64 143 13 0 1
Deep Passes 4 0 0 0 0 0 0

Short Route Pass Anything 10 yards and under
Intermediate Pass - Between 11-20 yards
Deep Pass - Anything beyond 20 yards
This is based on where the ball is caught, not how much yardage the play ultimately gained.

Team Pass Defense ATT CMP PCT YDS YPA TD INT
Ike Taylor 13 6 46 73 5.6 0 0
Deshea Townsend 3 0 0 0 0 0 0

James Farrior 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Tyrone Carter 4 2 50 83 20.8 0 0

Ike Taylor was supposedly the most targeted corner in the league last year, and if this keeps up, he will be again...

Rodney Bailey 0 0 0 0 1
Total 33 3 22 39 10

Just a note here. Total blitzes is the number of times the Steelers brought more then 3 pass rushers. The Steelers blitzed heavily against the Dolphins, though. It's really incredible to see how many different defenders LeBeau brought in just one game. Also interesting, Farrior was able to generate the most consistent pressure coming up the middle. Not sure if this was because Miami's starting G was out. Curious to see if this will continue against Jacksonville.

Jeff Hartings 1 0
Kendall Simmons 3 0
Max Starks 5 0
Heath Miller 2 0
Verron Haynes 1 0
Willie Parker 3 0
Dan Kreider 1 0

You'll notice only one sack is listed as being allowed, but Batch was taken down twice. The reason is that the second, by Traylor, was on a broken down screen play. Jason Taylor read it, and instead of coming, followed Parker. Faneca allowed his man through, which forced Batch to scramble. Traylor merely came in and cleaned up, so this is one thing Simmons can't be blamed for.

Defenses Faced # Runs YDS YPC Total Runs PCT Sacks Hurries

Blitzes 8 - - - - - 0 4

Blitz here is defined as any time Miami brought more then 4 defenders. Neither of Miami's sacks came on a blitz. The Steelers faced 8 man fronts on 45% of all their run plays against Miami.
