Reed, Stewart Win Weekly
Hard Hat Award (Game #11, vs. Cinci)
Stiller
K Jeff Reed and QB Kordell Stewart are the co-winners of our weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the
iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast
furnace of a still mill.
In what might have been the most difficult Hard Hat decision
since The Award's inception, the Committee deliberated into the wee hours of
the night. Because no beer can be
consumed until a final decision is made, the committee members finally
succumbed to their thirst and came to an agreement.
Stewart, pressed into starting in place of the previously
concussed Maddox, responded with a solid all-around effort in front of what
could have been a hostile home crowd.
He appeared to be mentally sharp, which corresponded into good decision
making throughout the day. He threw the
ball fairly accurately and ran the ball with zest. Stew also sacrificed the bod to enable Ward's long reverse run,
in which Stew picked up a trailing defender, held his ground, and withstood a
bruising hit, which prevented the defender from nailing Ward from the
side/behind. In all, for at least one
day, Stewart shook off the demons and came though in true hard hat style.
Reed, who last week was an unemployed kicker whod never
played in a regular season NFL game, went out on Heinz Quagmire and made 3 of 4
FGs -- including ones of 43 & 45 in the clutch -- and kicked off fairly
well. On top of that, he impressed the
Committee with his toughness and willingness to help out on the atrocious KO
coverage, chipping in on 3 stops. Reed
showed that he's a lunch pail kind of guy, worthy of wearing a Hard Hat.
Kudos
to Jeff and Kordell for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, fellas!!
