Haven's NFL Power Rankings (Week 4)

October 04, 2006 by Steel Haven

Rnk LW Team Record Comments
1. 5. Chicago Bears 4-0 Can Grossman stay healthy? Who knows. For now they are the most impressive team in the NFL. Of course that can change in a hurry.
2. 1. Indianapolis Colts 4-0 Manning just keeps winning regular season games in spite of his offensive line and defense.
3. 7. Baltimore Ravens 4-0 McNair is helping them win games that they would have lost the last couple of years.
4. 4. Denver Broncos 2-1 Come off the bye to face the rejunivated Ravens in an early season matchup that will help define the AFC race.
5. 9. Philadelphia Eagles 3-1 Took advantage of the opportunity to give Westbrook a break against the overmatched Packers on Monday night.
6. 10. New England Patriots 3-1 Reports of their demise were premature. Maroney and Gabriel provide Brady with the weapons that he needs.
7. 2. Cincinnati Bengals 3-1 Run defense is a major problem.
8. 3. Seattle Seahawks 3-1 Found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time on Sunday night in Chicago.
9. 12. Dallas Cowboys 2-1 The TO soap opera did not affect them in Tennessee. Next up a trip to Philadelphia which will only serve to intensify the TO coverage.
10. 14. Atlanta Falcons 3-1 Averaging 234 yards rushing per game. Dunn, Norwood and Vick all individually outgained James.
11. 8. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-2 Seemed to be on an emotional low after the loss in Indianapolis.
12. 11. Pittsburgh Steelers 1-2 Desperately need improved play from Roethlisberger in a must win early season Sunday night showdown in San Diego.
13. 6. San Diego Chargers 2-1 Nothing has changed from last season. Have the talent to dominate the game. Schottenheimer's conservative nature keeps the opponent close and leads to tough losses.
14. 16. Carolina Panthers 2-2 Penchant for letting opponents back into games that seem over has to be a concern for Fox.
15. 20. Washington Redskins 2-2 Coming on after a slow start. The power running game and YAC from an explosive receiver corps was the difference against the previously stellar Jaguars defense.
16. 18. St. Louis Rams 3-1 Bulger finally seems to be catching on to Linehan's offense.
17. 13. New Orleans Saints 3-1 Took a not unexpected step back in Carolina after the dizzying heights they enjoyed in the return to New Orleans.
18. 17. New York Giants 1-2 Face a tough test coming off the bye with the surging Redskins coming to town. Their season could spiral out of control if another loss serves to widen the apparent rift between the players and coaches.
19. 21. Buffalo Bills 2-2 The light seems to be coming on for Losman. That makes them dangerous given the ability of McGahee and the defense.
20. 19. New York Jets 2-2 Mangini has them playing aggressive, hard nosed football.
21. 15. Minnesota Vikings 2-2 Early season success may have been a mirage.
22. 24. Kansas City Chiefs 1-2 Switch from Green to Huard didn't have the negative affect that most expected. At least for a week. Huard needs to keep it up for a couple more games until Green can return.
23. 29. Cleveland Browns 1-3 Nothing like a trip to Oakland to right the ship.
24. 31. Houston Texans 1-3 The tandem of Carr to Johnson is blossoming under Kubiak.
25. 23. Arizona Cardinals 1-3 This week the switch to Leinart is official.
26. 26. Green Bay Packers 1-3 Released the overmatched Carroll after the Monday night game to further distance themselves from the failed Sherman regime.
27. 27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0-3 Try to start over off the bye with Gradkowski at the helm in New Orleans.
28. 22. Miami Dolphins 1-3 SI predicted them to be in the Super Bowl.
29. 25. San Fransisco 49ers 1-3 Came out flat and got blown out in Kansas City. That can happen with a young team that still needs time to develop. Have an excellent chance to get back on track against the Raiders.
30. 28. Detriot Lions 0-4 Showed signs of an offensive awaking in St. Louis. Unfortunately the defense needs a lot of work.
31. 30. Tennessee Titans 0-4 Lost 13 of their last 15. The Fisher era may be coming to an end despite assurances to the contrary from Adams.
32. 32. Oakland Raiders 0-3 Somehow blew a 14 point halftime lead at home to the previously winless Browns after Jordan and Fargas ran wild in the first half.
