Hard
Hat Award (Game #10, @ Clev.)
Stiller FS Troy Polamalu is the winner
of the weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller
player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel
workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
Polamala, coming off a concussion, spearheaded
the Stiller defensive effort in the 2nd half, snuffing multiple Cleveland drives that
allowed the offense, in turn, to have the ball back and crawl back on the
scoreboard. In the 3Q,
on a 3d & 7, Clev. TE Heiden
caught a short pass in the flat and appeared to have plenty of room for the 1st
down. Up flashed Troy Pola, who flew in with the speed of a locomotive and
slashed Heiden, toppling the TE and causing him to
land on his head short of the sticks. This
was a spectacular a play as youll see a safety make in the NFL. Late in the 4Q, with the Stillers clawing back
into the game, Pola personally took over on a 3-and-punt
series. 1st down -- Frye ran a boot to
his right, only to be stopped by Pola for no gain. 2nd down -- Wright ran a plunge up RG, only to be
stopped by Pola and Hampton for a measly 2 yards. On 3rd & 8, Pola
blitzed, but then astutely read the QB, stepped back, and calmly batted down
the pass. The Stillers got the ball back
with 3:06 remaining and marched for the winning score.
Kudos to Polamalu for
winning the Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Troy!
