Power Rankings (week 16)

December 23, 2015 by Steel Haven

Rnk LW* Team Record Comments
1. 1. Carolina Panthers 14-0 Ginn is the franchise's first receiver with double digit receiving TDs in a season since Smith Jr. in '05.
2. 2. Arizona Cardinals 12-2 Can defense overcome loss of Mathieu to torn ACL?
3. 3. New England Patriots 12-2 Clinched a playoff bye for the 6th consecutive season.
4. 5. Cincinnati Bengals 11-3 McCarron was fine in Santa Clara, trip to Denver will provide more of a test.
5. 6. Kansas City Chiefs 9-5 Continue to roll winning their 8th straight. Surge started against the Roethlisberger-less Steelers.
6. 7. Seattle Seahawks 9-5 Baldwin joins Rice as the only receivers in league history to score 10 TDs in the span of 4 games.
7. 8. Green Bay Packers 10-4 Clinched playoffs for 7th straight season.
8. 9. Pittsburgh Steelers 9-5 Scored in each of their last 21 consecutive quarters played.
9. 4. Denver Broncos 10-4 Haven't scored in the second half of their last 3 games.
10. 10. New York Jets 9-5 Behind the Chiefs and Steelers in the wild card race due to tie breakers.
11. 11. Minnesota Vikings 9-5 Bridgewater came up big when needed due to an injury to Purple Jesus after over a month of less than memorable performances that had some (including me) questioning his ability to lead a playoff contender.
12. 13. Washington Redskins 7-7 Can clinch on Saturday night. Would be nice to be in the NFC East (or AFC South, see next team in rankings).
13. 17. Houston Texans 7-7 Weeden will be their fourth different starting QB this season. Still control their own fate.
14. 20. Atlanta Falcons 7-7 Move up this high by default after a close win over Jaguars. Gap between haves and have-nots is wide. The middle class is basically non-existent.
15. 14. New York Giants 6-8 Beckham completely lost it against Norman, clearly deserved suspension. He should have been tossed in game.
16. 22. St. Louis Rams 6-8 Snead, Fisher reportedly safe for '16 with Kroenke more concerned about possible move to LA than on field product.
17. 12. Philadelphia Eagles 6-8 Kelly going nowhere. Not sure whether that is good or bad.
18. 15. Indianapolis Colts 6-8 Had won 11 games, never lost a division matchup in each of Pagano/Luck's first 3 seasons.
19. 16. Buffalo Bills 6-8 Ryan will not match Marrone's win total from last season, defensive personnel especially front 7 in public revolt. Ryan was guaranteed $25 million for 5 years so don't expect him to be 1 and done.
20. 18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6-8 The Nike #ColorRush monochrome uniform experiment has gone horribly awry as might have been expected. Ketchup lost to Mustard in the Condiment Bowl in the most recent garish matchup last Thursday night.
21. 19. Oakland Raiders 6-8 Cooper their first receiver with a 1000 yard season since Moss in '05.
22. 21. Chicago Bears 5-9 Limping to the finish line with 4 losses in their last 5 games. Simply need more talent especially on defense.
23. 27. Detriot Lions 5-9 Will Cooter end up saving Caldwell's job?
24. 23. New Orleans Saints 5-9 Window of opportunity has slammed shut, probably best off tearing it down and starting over from scratch.
25. 24. Miami Dolphins 5-9 Firing coaches hasn't improved anything, need new players.
26. 25. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-9 Offense appears set for years to come, defense needs a lot of work.
27. 29. San Diego Chargers 4-10 Woodhead got into the end zone 4 times on 14 touches after failing to score on only 29 touches total in the previous 4 games.
28. 26. Dallas Cowboys 4-10 Moore threw 3 interceptions after Cassel was pulled, still expected to get start next week.
29. 28. San Francisco 49ers 4-10 Dumpster fire continues to blaze out of control.
30. 30. Tennessee Titans 3-11 Mariota's season likely over with MCL sprain. Stranger things have happened than Mettenberger playing well and increasing his trade value.
31. 31. Baltimore Ravens 4-10 Lost 5 home games for the first time in franchise history, still have 1 more to go.
32. 32. Cleveland Browns 3-11 Manziel gives them a little buzz despite his on the field performances being mediocre at best. Got no idea where they go from here.
