Loose Slag from The Still Mill 6 Sep 2016
- Bust Dupree now needs groin surgery and has been placed on IR. Damn. Like, Doltbert and Dumblin couldn’t have sent this fellow for an MRI weeks ago, and thus had the surgery WEEKS ago ?? Just dumb. Just fuking brainless and imbecilic. Dupreee can be activated, although only 1 player on a team can be activated off IR in a season.
- Of course, there’s also the saga of TE Ladarius Green, who hasn’t played a snap and is mired in concussion and ankle problems. Another brilliant job by Doltbert and Stoogelin to manage this fellow’s medical treatment, which dates back, oh, SIX MONTHS. Another dismal failure to do something -- anything -- intelligent in a timely manner.
- Hargrave earns a starting job…..then wrenches a knee at the Labor Day practice. Not sure of his status, but this hampers depth.
- Meanwhile, Senqueer Golson remains on the ACTIVE 53-man roster. Remember, this fellow has a liz franc foot injury that will take around 8 weeks to heal, if not longer. And remember, he has yet to play a SINGLE NFL snap, not even in a preseason game. Why, praytell, hasn’t this sorry ass been placed on IR, or simply cut ?? He’s eating a scarce spot on the 53-man, and with injuries to Cam Hewyard, Dupree, and now Hargrave, depth is at a premium. Another case of Doltbert being asleep at the wheel. And/or, a case of Doltbert and Dumblin apparently thinking Smurf Golson is the next Deion Sanders. Keeping this sorryassed bastard on the 53-man roster would be the extreme height of stupidity.
- Of course, the love affair with Golson should surprise no one. Remember this staff’s love affair with Sean Spence? My gawd, with their gushing and fawning, you’d have thought this fellow was the 2nd coming of Junior Seau, Mike Singletary, and Hacksaw Reynolds….all rolled into one….! Spence, a marginal player when drafted, then underwent something like 4 major leg surgeries….yet these simpletons kept clinging to him as the 2nd coming of Clay Matthews. Alas, he was a very poor man’s Jerry Olsavsky, and nothing more.
- In a rare fit of smartness, Doltbert acquired CB Justin Gilbert from Cleve for a 6th round pick in 2018. Gilbert was the 8th player taken in the draft a couple years ago, but failed, as most do, to live up to his potential in Cleve. If he can provide anything above mediocrity, it will be a huge help to a fairly inept secondary. The starting secondary of Gay, Cockrell, Golden, and Bitchell has to be among the 4 worst in the entire NFL.
- Am still enraged that Dolbert didn’t make a move on recently cut Cleve OLB Paul Krueger, especially when Doltbert had to know that Dupree's groin was nowhere near healed. Krueger has long impressed me and he would have been a welcome addition.
- Am surprised Touissaint is ahead of Richie on the RB depth chart. Richie vastly outplayed The Saint in the preseason. Wasn’t even close, quite frankly.
- Keep an eye on FS Mike Bitchell, who typically is nowhere near any aerial pigskin. There isn’t a more overrated player in pro football.
- The Stillers are fortunate to be opening the season against an inept, bumbling team like the Wash. Foreskins. However, do not run out and bet the mortgage on the Stillers in this one. Coach Michael Stoogelin has a lonnnnggg track record of complete clusterfuks on opening day. You can fully expect a rabid array of complete disorganization, complete confusion, and complete disarray, all combined with general lethargy and apathy. On opening day, no coach does less, with more, than Coach Stoogelin.
