Some Tuesday morning thoughts from the Black and Gold glasses:

-          First, a college football note. I am so glad the Walt Harris Era is over at Pitt. And a quick note to Dave Wannstedt please recruit some big, tough offensive linemen so Palko doesnt get killed next year.

-          HEY BUFFALO, that was our 4th string RB who gained 100 yards yesterday. It was so funny this past week seeing the Buffalo fans on our message boards telling us what a great team they are, how they are the hottest team in the NFL, blah, blah, blah. It will be equally enjoyable this week when I venture into their message boards and give them crap.

-          Chad Scott looked decent. It is good he got to get some plays in before the start of the playoffs. On a few plays when we were on defense, I specifically watched to see what Alonzo Jackson was doing. Normally I just watch the game and dont look at individual players. I agree with about 99% of the messages from the board. What the heck is this guy doing out there? On a couple of his rushes of Bledsoe, he went so far outside I think he sacked the Beer Man selling beer in the upper deck. I dont know, maybe another off-season studying film and the playbook is what he needs. At least I hope that is what he needs. Sure looks like a waste of a 2nd round pick.

-          I was disappointed in Maddox yesterday. Granted, it had been 3 months since he has seen any action, but come on Tommy. I was playing catch with a 6 and a 4 year old on Saturday that had more mustard on the ball than you did. Kreider might be spending today in the hot tub three carries! I couldnt tell you the FB for the AFC in the Pro Bowl, but whoever it is, I cant see them doing as good a job week in and week out as Kreider is doing for us.

-          My candidate for trick play in the playoffs is Max Starks catching a TD pass in a goal line situation.

-          It has been a long, long time since the Black and Gold glasses have been in the area during playoff time with the Steelers on a roll. I had forgotten how fired up this town gets. 78% of all TVs that were on last Sunday for the Ravens game were tuned to the Steelers. My fiance is German, doesnt really like football. She commented to me when we were Christmas shopping about how it seemed most people had on Steelers shirts, jackets, hats, etc, and most of the stores had Go Steelers signs in them. I told her to wait until the middle of January and later (assuming we keep winning). I told her that if we make it to the Super Bowl, there could be a serial killer on the loose in Pittsburgh, the city could be more bankrupt than it is now, we could have record high or low temperatures, but she wont be able to find out because 29 out of the 30 minute local news will be devoted to the Steelers. It is her children I was throwing the football with on Saturday, one was Hines Ward, the other Duce Staley. They both got Steelers sweatshirts for Christmas, and when they see the game, they know that #36 is THE BUS, and #7 is BIG BEN. Im trying to teach them right!

Some playoff thoughts: Listened to Mike Ditka last night say that he thinks Philly blew all their momentum of the 13-1 start with their performances of the last two weeks. I would tend to agree with him, but I really dont see anyone who can beat them. Maybe Atlanta. And we shouldnt forget All-World QB Donovan McNabbs excellent performances in NFC Championship games. This week, I think Green Bay beats Minnesota, I would say 34-31, but what are the chances of three games being played all with the same final score? The point spread is 4 or 5. I think Green Bay covers. And I think St Louis goes into Seattle and beats them in a high scoring affair. In the AFC, I cant see Denver beating Indy in the Dome, I actually think Indy will cover the 10 points. I pick the Chargers to beat the Jets. Herm Edwards doesnt seem to be too smart at times, he pulled a Mike Martz yesterday when we went for 2 in the 3rd quarter, which almost cost him the game, which at the time they thought they had to win. On Channel 2s 14 day temperature prediction last night, the next time the high temp for the day is only in the low to mid 30s is on the 15th and 16th, just in time for the Chargers.

Did I say I was glad Walt Harris is gone as Pitts coach?
