Hard
Hat Award (Game #13, vs. Clev)
Stiller RB Willie Parker is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough,
hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still
mill.
Parker had a career evening, rushing for a Stiller franchise
record 223 yards en route to a 27-7 beatdown of the hated Brownies. It wasn't just the mere production; it was
the toughness and determination shown by Parker, who churned, twisted,
burrowed, and plowed for every yard he could muster on the 32-carry evening. He did have one fumble, but it wasn't like
how some backs are prone to fumbling on a simple line plunge late in a game at
the opponent's 1-yard line, for example. Parker had dashed 20 yards when the ball was poked out of his hand
in the 2Q. He quickly atoned for it
with some authoritative running. Those
of us too young to recall Frency Fuqua's record-setting day can now pass on
stories about Parker's grand evening to future generations of Stiller
fans.
FS Tony Smith and special teamer Jamie Harrison received
serious consideration from The Committee.
However, Parker's tough, record-setting nite was too much to
ignore.
Kudos to Parker for winning the Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Willie!
