DT |
Amobi Okoye - Louisville
Justin Harrell - Tennessee *Alan Branch - Michigan |
Turk McBride - Tennessee (DE)
DeMarcus Tyler - North Carolina St |
Paul Soliai - Utah (NT)
Quinn Pitcock - Ohio St Antonio Johnson - Mississippi St (NT) |
Branch is in freefall. The issue is not injury related as rumored. Teams appear seriously concerned about his desire. The Steelers could legitimately take Harrell at 15. They apparently have no interest in Branch. Johnson makes an appearance as a first day possibility. He is a high upside nose tackle prospect with very limited experience. He had a good Senior Bowl and workouts. There are several teams at the bottom of the third round that really need a NT.
DE |
Gaines Adams - Clemson
*Jamaal Anderson - Arkansas Adam Carriker - Nebraska (DT) *Jarvis Moss - Florida (OLB) Anthony Spencer - Purdue (OLB) |
Victor Abiamiri - Notre Dame (OLB)
LaMarr Woodley - Michigan (OLB) *Charles Johnson - Georgia Ray McDonald - Florida (DT) Tim Crowder - Texas (OLB) Ikaika Alama-Francis - Hawaii Quentin Moses - Georgia (OLB) |
Brian Robison - Texas (OLB)
Jay Moore - Nebraska Baraka Atkins - Miami, Fla |
I go back and forth on Anderson and Carriker. Anderson is a dynamic pass rusher with limited experience. Carriker is a steady, well rounded two-gap lineman that could step in immedately at end in the 3-4 and play anywhere in the 4-3. There is only an outside chance either will be available at fifteen. The Steelers would reportedly take Carriker over Anderson. All the teams picking ahead of the Steelers except the 49ers would probably take the gamble on Anderson's upside. That is why they flip in the rankings. McDonald moves from DT to DE in these rankings. He played both positions at Florida. Teams seem interested in him mostly as a big 4-3 end or a 3-4 end.
ILB |
Patrick Willis - Mississippi
David Harris - Michigan |
Justin Durant - Hampton (OLB) |
*Brandon Siler - Florida
Buster Davis - Florida St (OLB) Anthony Waters - Clemson |
Harris moves up, Blades falls to the second day. Harris really came on as a senior and then ran a 4.59 forty at the combine. He has moved into the late first round. At the least the very early second round. The Patriots are seriously interested in Harris at 28. The 49ers are rumored to be talking with the Eagles about moving up if they don't take Willis at 11. Hard to envision Harris now falling lower than the Lions at 34. Blades is a good college player that lacks top measurables. Small and slow rarely gets a player drafted on the first day. This is a very thin class of inside linebackers. Siler, Davis and Waters could fall out of the top three rounds. Team needs could still get them picked on the first day so they remain in my top 110.
OLB |
*Lawrence Timmons - Florida St
*Jon Beason - Miami, Fla (ILB) Paul Posluszny - Penn St (ILB) |
Stewart Bradley - Nebraska (ILB) |
Antwan Barnes - Fla Int'l (DE)
Quincy Black - New Mexico Rufus Alexander - Oklahoma |
Timmons flips with Beason. This is basically the same argument as Anderson and Carriker. Timmons is more dynamic yet less experienced. Beason is a team leader from a school known for producing top linebackers. In the end Timmons upside is likely to get him picked first. Much like the inside LBs this is a very thin class of outside LBs. After the top four there may not be another OLB picked on the first day.
CB |
*Darrelle Revis - Pittsburgh
Leon Hall - Michigan Aaron Ross - Texas |
*Chris Houston - Arkansas
*Eric Wright - UNLV Marcus McCauley - Fresno St Josh Wilson - Maryland Jonathan Wade - Tennessee (S) |
Daymeion Hughes - California
Usama Young - Kent St Michael Coe - Alabama St Fred Bennett - South Carolina (S) |
Revis moves ahead of Hall. McCauley ahead of Wilson. Young ahead of Coe. Each switch was a recognition that the player moving up has more upside. Houston drops from a first to second round prospect. This was a tough decision. Some say Houston is the best cover corner in this draft. That of course sounds good. Others say Houston is a one dimensonal man-to-man corner that shies away from contact. Not as good.
S |
LaRon Landry - LSU
*Reggie Nelson - Florida Michael Griffin - Texas Brandon Meriweather - Miami, Fla |
Eric Weddle - Utah (CB)
Tanard Jackson - Syracuse (CB) |
Sabby Piscitelli - Oregon St
Gerald Alexander - Boise St Brannon Condren - Troy John Wendling - Wyoming |
Rouse drops like a rock out of the first day. He is a former LB that lacks fluidity. That is generally the kiss of death. Piscitelli is also the type of LB/S tweener that tends to drop. His high motor and solid athleticism keeps him on the first day. Alexander is a former corner moving up. Condren's 4.47 forty and 4.10 3-cone drill at his pro day has him on the rise. Wendling drops behind Alexander and Condren because he works out better than he plays. |

#These tables are intended to give an estimate of how many players are usually drafted at each position in each round. Draft classes are different so the numbers should not be taken literally. This is really being included because more players than can actually be drafted are listed in the draft value boards. This is especially true in later rounds where the difference in value between prospects is much less pronounced and more players than can actually be drafted in a specific round based on raw numbers carry a grade for that round. Because there are only so many draft slots players with a low 3rd round grade will be available on the second day and players with a 5th or 6th round grade could well come off the board in the 7th round or go undrafted. |
