Bell, Haggans Win Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #16, vs. Cleveland)
Stiller LBs Kendrell Bell and Clark Haggans are the co-winners of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
KenBell led the team with 7 solo stops in the win over the Brownies. Amongst his tackles were two vicious sacks of QB Tim Couch, including a highlight reel sack in which he closed on Couch and then vaulted through the air and pounced on the QB, all in a move so swift that most tigers would have been duly impressed. Clark Haggans, the 2nd year OLB from Colorado St. who has been one of the teams best coverage men on special teams, finally was allowed to play linebacker in a regular season game, and responded with tough, hard-nosed linebacking at the point of attack. The Browns tried to run at, and around, Haggans on several occasions, and Haggans held his ground as tough as the Americans held their ground in the Battle of the Bulge. On one sweep early in the 3rd quarter, Haggans strung the play wide, then fought off a blocker and near-simultaneously stuck the RB, resulting in a meager 1-yard gain. This kind of hard-nosed play is what the Hard Hat is all about, and is what makes the Hard Hat Award the coveted award that it is.
Kudos to Kendrell and Clark for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, men !!
