Hard
Hat Award (Game #12, vs. Cinci)
Stiller QB Ben Roethlisberger is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the
iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast
furnace of a still mill.
Benji entered the Cinci game with a banged-up thumb, but
taped it up, old school style, and played through the discomfort in the first quarter
with superb results. On the first drive
of the 2Q, Ben was hit after he released a pass, and he braced his fall with
that right hand, thereby exacerbating the injury and adding an extra level of
pain. Knowing there was absolutely no
one else to carry on the QB chores, Ben bravely fought through the pain, though
on the very next play he threw an INT on a deep stop to Morgan. Not one to complain, Benji marched on, and
had a career high 386 passing yards. Ben
willed this offense to 31 points and put this team in contention for the win. In fact, if just half the Stiller defense
had shown just half as much guts as BenRoth, the Stillers would have handily
won this ballgame.
An honorable mention goes to Quincy Morgan, who busted 2
tackles en route to a 25-yard TD, as well as a couple strong KO returns.
Kudos to Roth for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Ben!

(Note: Stillers.com will pay tribute to Steve Courson this
season by placing "77" in the Hard Hat Award article each week. Courson, as most of you certainly recall,
was the ultimate Hard Hat kind of player. Tough, dependable, and versatile. Stillers.com will also pay tribute to Army Sergeant First Class
Brent Adams, a longtime Stillers fan and Pittsburgh native who paid the
ultimate sacrifice for his country while serving on point for the nation in
Iraq. SFC Adams died on duty in Iraq on
Dec. 1st, 2005, and his obituary can be read at this link. Stillers.com will place a "B.A."
in the Hard Hat article the rest of the season in tribute to this great
American.)
