Haven's NFL Power Rankings (Week 3)

September 27, 2006 by Steel Haven

Rnk LW* Team Record Comments
1. 2. Indianapolis Colts 3-0 Continue to dominate in the regular season.
2. 3. Cincinnati Bengals 3-0 Overcame the inability to stop the run by forcing turnovers.
3. 4. Seattle Seahawks 3-0 The Madden curse seems to have struck again. Although Alexander is now saying that the power of prayer has cured his foot. Whatever the case they managed to win the first 3 without Alexander putting up big numbers. They should be able to keep winning until Alexander returns.
4. 7. Denver Broncos 2-1 Shanahan has Belicheck's number.
5. 9. Chicago Bears 3-0 Won despite Grossman having an off day. Need Jones or Benson to start producing on the ground to take the next step.
6. 12. San Diego Chargers 2-0 Must prove they can travel east against a tough opponent and get a victory.
7. 11. Baltimore Ravens 3-0 Opponents so far have an 0-9 record. Will finally get tested this week with the Chargers coming to town.
8. 5. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-1 Performance of Jones-Drew was a bright spot in defeat.
9. 8. Philadelphia Eagles 2-1 Still have to be shaking their heads after letting the Giants off the hook 2 weeks ago. Especially after seeing what the Giants did in Seattle.
10. 6. New England Patriots 2-1 Brady still does not seem at all happy that Branch and Givens are gone. Can you blame him?
11. 1. Pittsburgh Steelers 1-2 Rushing Roethlisberger back from the appendectomy was a mistake in hindsight. He was awful in Jacksonville and almost as bad at home against Cincinnati. His redzone interception against the Bengals in the first quarter completely turned the game around. Parker and the defense managed to keep the team in the game until Coclough's muffed punt in the fourth quarter. Cowher deserves whatever grief he gets for keeping Reid inactive and sending Coclough back to return that punt. Or any punt for that matter.
12. 16. Dallas Cowboys 1-1 The TO saga shifts from the absurd to the ridiculous. You know things are f'ed up when the media's mishandling of a story actually makes me feel bad for TO.
13. 24. New Orleans Saints 3-0 The biggest surprise of the young season. Face a litmus test on Sunday in Carolina.
14. 10. Atlanta Falcons 2-1 Just can't throw the ball.
15. 17. Minnesota Vikings 2-1 Poised to take control of the NFC North when a late fumble by Taylor cost them the game.
16. 14. Carolina Panthers 1-2 Return of Smith helped. Still have to be concerned that the defense almost managed to blow a 13 point halftime lead against a quarterback that had literally been beaten to a pulp.
17. 13. New York Giants 1-2 Shockey took grief for saying in the heat of the moment after a blowout loss to the Seahawks that his team had been outcoached. Shockey was right even though he should have kept his mouth shut.
18. 19. St. Louis Rams 2-1 Linehan's best move was hiring Haslett.
19. 25. New York Jets 2-1 A healthy Pennington gives them just enough offense to compliment a stout defense.
20. 20. Washington Redskins 1-2 Got back on track in Houston. Can not afford to take a step backwards with the Jaguars coming to town.
21. 27. Buffalo Bills 1-2 Losman has shown some skills, but still makes too many mistakes.
22. 15. Miami Dolphins 1-2 Should have tried harder in the offseason to sign Brees.
23. 18. Arizona Cardinals 1-2 Again not living up to the hype. Green went back to Warner after toying with the idea of starting Leinart. His waffling was not a good sign.
24. 22. Kansas City Chiefs 0-2 Expect a huge workload for LJ with Huard lining up behind center.
25. 29. San Fransisco 49ers 1-2 Nolan seems to have them heading in the right direction.
26. 32. Green Bay Packers 1-2 Favre still has something left in the tank.
27. 21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0-3 A lost season. Hopefully Simms will make a complete recovery.
28. 23. Detriot Lions 0-3 Marinelli and Martz have not been enough to overcome Millen's years of ineptitude.
29. 30. Cleveland Browns 0-3 Throwing the ball from the Ravens' 4 yard line with under 3 and a half minutes remaining was foolhardy. The result was predictable. An interception followed by a 47 yard drive that resulted in a game winning field goal by Stover.
30. 26. Tennessee Titans 0-3 Fisher sticks by Collins despite 6 interceptions and only 1 touchdown in 3 starts.
31. 28. Houston Texans 0-3 Decision to take Williams over Bush looking worse and worse with Dayne, Lundy and Gado fighting for carries. Especially after Kubiak went public with his disappointment in the performance of Williams.
32. 31. Oakland Raiders 0-2 How bad has it gotten? Coming off the bye they are home underdogs against the 0-3 Browns.
