.1.New England Patriots4-0Set NFL all-time record by winning 19th in a row. Could a letdown be possible? Doubtful with the ever vigilant Belicheck at the helm.
.2.Philadelphia Eagles4-0Come off the bye ready to feast on the limping Panthers.
.4.Indianapolis Colts4-1Edgerrin James is third in the NFL in rushing and appears fully recovered from his 2002 knee injury. That is very good news for the pending free agent's wallet, but very bad news for the rest of the NFL.
.7.Denver Broncos4-1Were having more problems than many expected replacing Clinton Portis. Quincy Griffin was struggling. Tatum Bell could not stay healthy. Garrison Hearst never fully recovered from last season's knee problems. Mike Anderson had to be placed on injured reserve. Then along came Reuben Droughns.
.3.Seattle Seahawks3-1Continued throwing on offense and blitzing on defense despite a 17 point lead almost halfway through the 4th quarter. It didn't work. Instead fans got an abject lesson on why with a big lead most teams try to run the ball on offense and use the prevent on defense. The shocking home loss to a divisional rival was a bitter pill to swallow. Especially with a trip to Foxboro next up on the schedule.
.6.Minnesota Vikings3-1Daunte Culpepper has come of age. Porous pass defense remains their Achilles' heel and it almost cost them in Houston.
.9.New York Jets4-0Can't afford to look past the 49ers this week with a trip to Fosboro looming in week 7.
.10.Pittsburgh Steelers4-1So far the Steelers have done what they needed to do. Won the games they should have won. Got superb play out of Ben Roethlisberger, Duce Staley, Hines Ward and the defensive line. Seen improvement from the offensive line, linebackers, safeties and even Plaxico Burress in the last couple of weeks. Managed to survive with Chad Scott in the starting lineup. Now comes the real test. After an easy early season schedule the next 3 games against the Cowboys, Eagles and Patriots present a formidible test. God help me.... I am optimistic.
.12.New York Giants4-1Tom Coughlin does not coddle his players or kowtow to the media. For those reasons he rarely gets good press. But Couglin can coach.
.5.Atlanta Falcons4-1Michael Vick is not living up to the hype.
.14.St. Louis Rams3-2While the offense is no longer as consistent as in the Super Bowl years, they still can show glimpses of being the greatest show on turf.
.13.Baltimore Ravens3-2Hard to believe that America was forced to watch this offense two weeks in a row in prime time. Defense and special teams are still good enough to keep them competative.
.20.Detriot Lions3-1Have managed 2 road victories in 4 weeks after not winning away from home in 3 years.
.8.Jacksonville Jaguars3-2Early season optimism has given way to concern.
.16.Tennessee Titans2-3Came alive in Lambeau field on Monday night in a game they had to have against a desperate opponent.
.11.Dallas Cowboys2-2Looked surprisingly flat in a home loss against a divisional rival. The Parcells' magic seems to have faded a bit. At least they have the Bills first rounder in next year's draft.
.24.San Diego Chargers3-2Drew Brees is making himself a lot of money as he heads toward unrestricted free agency.
.15.Carolina Panthers1-3Injuries have derailed a once promising season. Things will probably get worse before they get better with this week's trip to Philadelphia for a rematch of last year's NFC Championship game against the revenge minded Eagles.
.17.New Orleans Saints2-3Continue to be maddeningly inconsistent. Jim Haslett is on the hot seat.
.18.Oakland Raiders2-3Turned the ball over 8 times in 2 games with Collins as the starter.
.21.Houston Texans2-3David Carr and Andre Johnson are developing into one heck of a tandem.
.22.Kansas City Chiefs1-3Return from a bye week needing to build on the positive momentum of their win in Baltimore. Expect a healthy dose of Priest Holmes against a Jaguars' defense that was trashed by LaDanian Tomlinson and Jesse Chatman
.23.Cincinnati Bengals1-3A bit of a disappointment after last year's return to respectability. Desperately need to beat the Browns in Cleveland to salvage their season.
.19.Green Bay Packers1-4Last time they lost first 3 home games was 1988.
.25.Cleveland Browns2-3Randy Lerner's confidence in Butch Davis does not appear to be particularly well placed.
.29.Tampa Bay Buccaneers1-4Finally won after being forced to go to their third QB of the early season. Both Brian Griese and the injured Chris Simms look like improvements over the struggling Brad Johnson.
.26.Washington Redskins1-4A mind boggling 3-14 in their last 17 games despite one of the highest payrolls in the league.
.32.San Fransisco 49ers1-4Fourth quarter comeback led by Tim Rattay gives some hope to what was shaping up as a dismal season. Unfortunately the win came at a price. Franchise OLB Julian Peterson was lost for the year with a torn Achilles' tendon.
.27.Arizona Cardinals1-4Attempt to win 2 straight was foiled by defensive collapse in San Fransisco that saw a 16 point fourth quarter lead turn into an overtime loss.
.28.Buffalo Bills0-4You know there are problems when the owner is already questioning the gameplan only 4 games into the new head coach's tenure.
.30.Chicago Bears1-3Bye week came at a good time for the bruised and battered Bears.
.31.Miami Dolphins0-5The only franchise to ever go undefeated in a season. Could they be the first to finish 0-16?
