Power Rankings (final regular season)

January 04, 2012 by Steel Haven

Rnk LW* Team Record Comments
1. 1. Green Bay Packers 15-1 Unrestricted free agent to be Flynn made himself a lot of money on Sunday.
2. 2. New Orleans Saints 13-3 Breesus threw for a mind boggling 2,730 yards and 27 TDs during their season ending 8 game winning streak, a decent season for most.
3. 3. New England Patriots 13-3 Erased a big early deficit for the third straight week. Cant afford to fall behind early by multiple TDs against playoff competition.
4. 4. Baltimore Ravens 12-4 Rice became only the second player with 1,000 yards rushing and 700 receiving in more than one season. Hall of Famer Faulk was the first.
5. 5. San Francisco 49ers 13-3 Last time they won 13 games was in 1997 under Mariucci in his first season.
6. 6. Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4 Limp into the playoffs with a myriad of injuries. Clark's inability to play in Denver doesn't help. Of course if they can't beat the struggling Broncos and one-dimensional Tebow under any conditions then they don't deserve to advance.
7. 11. New York Giants 9-7 Last season failed to make the playoffs with 10 wins after blowing a huge lead to the Eagles. What a difference a year makes.
8. 9. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 Ryan's 4,177 passing yards set a franchise single season record surpassing George's total of 4,143 yards in 1995.
9. 7. Detriot Lions 10-6 Last time they made the playoffs before this season was in 1999.
10. 8. Houston Texans 10-6 On a 3 game losing streak as they enter the post season for the first time in franchise history.
11. 10. Cincinnati Bengals 9-7 Back into the playoffs thanks to the ineptitude of the Broncos and Raiders.
12. 12. Philadelphia Eagles 8-8 Reid's return is official after his rumored flirtation with the Chargers.
13. 15. Tennessee Titans 9-7 Let down by the Broncos and Raiders. Munchack is now reportedly seriously considering the Penn State job after previously dismissing the possibility of leaving.
14. 17. San Diego Chargers 8-8 Smith and Turner somehow survived. Rumor is that Spanos flirted with Reid and decided not to make a change when he stayed with the Eagles.
15. 19. Arizona Cardinals 8-8 Finished on a high note winning an NFL record fourth OT game this season.
16. 13. Dallas Cowboys 8-8 Remain hamstrung by the owner's insistence on running the football operation.
17. 24. Kansas City Chiefs 7-9 Orton improved his stock in free agency and helped make a case for Crennel's return.
18. 14. Denver Broncos 8-8 Back into the playoffs on a 3 game losing streak with Tebow having been exposed.
19. 16. Oakland Raiders 8-8 Fell flat on their collective faces with the division there for the taking.
20. 23. Miami Dolphins 6-10 Have the talent to be immediate contenders if they hire Fisher and somehow end up with Peyton behind center.
21. 18. New York Jets 8-8 Holmes got into a verbal altercation during the week with Sanchez and then was benched in the fourth quarter reportedly for arguing with Hunter in the huddle. Resigning him is looking dumber-and-dumber. The Steelers trading him for whatever they could get is looking smarter-and-smarter.
22. 25. Chicago Bears 8-8 Firing of Angelo was long overdue. The breaking point ended up being the hiring of the also departing Martz to coach an offense that lacked weapons at receiver and talent on the offensive line. When Cutler went down the offense fell like a house of cards. Now need to find a new GM willing to work with Lovie.
23. 22. Seattle Seahawks 7-9 Lynch's streak of 11 consecutive games with a TD came to an end.
24. 20. Carolina Panthers 6-10 Time to concentrate on rebuilding the defense.
25. 21. Buffalo Bills 6-10 Giving up 49 unanswered points after taking a 21 point lead against the Pats cost DC Edwards his job. Wannstedt will take over. He has excelled in the role in the past.
26. 27. Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11 Jones-Drew is the first player in franchise history to lead the league in rushing.
27. 26. Washington Redskins 5-11 Rumored to be heavily interested in Flynn. Definitely need to do something at QB.
28. 28. Cleveland Browns 4-12 Desperately need RGIII to be available with the fourth pick.
29. 29. Minnesota Vikings 3-13 Allen ended half a sack short of tying Strahan for the single season record.
30. 30. Indianapolis Colts 2-14 Irsay fully embraced the suck for Luck. The Polian's reportedly wanted to trade the pick for a king's ransom and keep Peyton. Unsurprisingly the owner won the power struggle. Hard to envision Peyton returning.
31. 31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12 No way Morris could survive the season ending 10 game losing streak.
32. 32. St. Louis Rams 2-14 Spagnoula could not build on the promise of 2010 and paid with his job.
