Zereoue Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #13, @ Baltimore)
Stiller RB Amos Zereoue is the winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
The third-year RB from WVU, who�d been banished to bench duty the past two seasons, responded with his best career NFL effort in the huge win over the rival Ravens. It wasn�t merely the yardage (73 yards on 16 carries) that impressed the committee, but more so Amoz�s ability to make something out of nothing, and his gritty 2nd, 3rd, even 4th effort on several of his runs. With Jerome Bettis not even dressed, AZ�s gutty effort against the Ravens vaunted defense culminated in a sterling 16-yard gain from the Ravens 20-yard line, in which Amoz adroitly cut back after reading a nice hole, and then refused to go down until he was gang tackled at the Raven 4-yard line. Amoz re-injured his banged-up shoulder on this play, but his work set up the Kreider TD run a few plays later, which sealed the win for the Black n� Gold. Earlier in the game, Amoz busted through a tackle and gained 8 yards on the fake-reverse. And on Stew�s scramble midway through the 3Q, Amoz had a nice pancake block to help lead the QB to a 13-yard gain. Amoz also helped chip in on pass protection on blitz pickups. This kind of hard-nosed play is what the Hard Hat is all about, and is what makes the Hard Hat Award the coveted award that it is.
