Lots of great thoughts were expressed in a milion threads last night following the game. I decided to
just keep celebrating vs. trying to keep up with all the different threads. So,
here are my compiled game thoughts.
What a hell of a night to be Black & Gold, baby! And I have to say how nice
it is to have my team love me back. After all, there's no way this was a
coincidence that they scheduled this entire 75th anniversary celebration AND asswhooping of the Ravens right on my 30th birthday. I
don't believe in coincidences, but I believe in this team!
The Steelers had to feel a ton of extra pressure going into last night's
game...After all, there was only a Hall of Fame collection of legendary players
standing right there watching. How awesome was it to get to see Terry Bradshaw,
Franco Harris, Swannie, Stallworth,
Mean Joe, Mel, and basically everyone you can imagine during the game, before
the game, and at halftime. Talk about some huge shoes to fill. I was fired up,
almost felt teary eyes, but I was only a baby when we were the greatest team
EVER. Congratulations to all of you here who got to experience that in the 70's
while not shitting in your diaper and barely understanding what was going on.
And to hear ESPN saying that OUR team was the greatest team ever in 1978, even
with all the hype over you know who, was a filling feeling!
Ok, to the batmobile! Let's talk about the game!
The Steelers not only answered the call, but did it in crushing style. James
Harrison proved why I've loved him since seeing his first plays a few years
ago. And it's a blast to hear "Superstar" attached to him all night
by announcers and all the post-game heads. This guy was the hard hat hero
without a doubt, showing spectacular form and Steeler
spirit with crushing hits that were ALL fundamental at the same time. His
helmet was always on the ball, and some of his biggest plays were the ones you
may not have noticed: Several times he was slipping on the ground, yet able to
put himself in every play making ankle tackles from the ground.
Big Ben was HUGE. Just huge. This team could have put
up 60 points easily, had they not done the CLASSY thing and take the air out of
the ball completely for 30 minutes. That other team better realize what we're
capable of, even though we don't run it up. Every week Ben's got some kind of
play where he's being tackled, yet seems like Superman...completely
untouchable, and stays standing long enough, or breaks free entirely, throwing
first downs and touchdown passes with his eyes always up the field. It's a
shame that the media had to bring up Tom Brady 50 times in the game, but I'll
take it as a compliment because they were comparing our guy to their Lovefest Idol. Not only that, but they said at one occasion
that Ben was Tom Brady with wheels. At one point, Ben had 8 completions and 4
of them were tds, I believe. His stats are amazing.
Last night, he could have worn his
And on a side note, did Hines Ward ever stop smiling? And was his smile ever
THAT big before? What a fun first half to watch.
Our defense was stellar, and that's whether
I sure as hell would have liked to run the ball better and move that line of
scrimmage in the running game, but I'm too elated...and this is a positive
article....so that discussion has another place right now.
My prediction for Parker hitting 112 yards was obviously wrong. Who cares?
38-7: I love it! I've been right about enough things in my life that this one
won't make me lose any sleep tonight, and the important thing is the W. It's
also important to note that we did what we should have done against this team.
We attacked their corners, and we didn't play down to an opponent's level.
I'm proud to have this one on DVD, including all the coverage before and
afterwards. If I wouldn't have recorded it, now THAT'S something I'd have a
hard time sleeping over.
Here we go, STEELERS. HERE WE GO!
