THE ALLEN SOLUTIONand other musings from the mind like a
STEEL TRAP
Trap knows that he will take a beating and pummeling on the
message board for this, but Trap doesnt care!!!
One of Traps favorite coaches of all time was George
Allen. Unlike Billy the Cowherd, George
Allen was able to combine unabounded enthusiasm and motivation, WITH brilliance
in gameplan development. At one point
with the Washington Redskins, Allen had two quarterbacks who were capable of leading
the team to victory: Billy Kilmer and
Sonny Jurgenson. George Allen was not
afraid of using bothsometimes in the same gamesometimes TWICE in the same
game!!!!
Trap is of the opinion that there is NO REASON AT ALL why
the Stillers cannot use BOTH quarterbacks as the situation dictates. The Texan game, for example, absolutely
SCREAMED for Kordells scrambling abilities to put a stop to the incessant
run-blitzes employed by Capers. No
reason Kordell could not have been brought in for a series or two it wasnt
as if the Texans were going to score on there own!?!? What whould it hurt???
Trap also advocates the insertion of Kordell in that game,
and STILL going back to Maddox as the starter the next game. No problem with that. Someone on the forum said that you cant
operate your QBs like a starting pitcher and a relief pitcherWHY
NOT???????? This team has shown it can
win with either QB, and they can lose with either QB. Why not combine the best of both, the same way Allen combined
Kilmer and Jurgenson???
Trap is also in agreement with Len Pasquarelli, who says
that in the NFL, you MUST stay with the hot QB. This is simply the new reality of todays NFLquarterbacks can go
hot or cold at any moment. You must
ride out the wave. The Kordell bashers
on this site absolutely would not let Kordell play another minute, and kept
insisting that he would win out and then fizzle in the playoffs. What a LUDICROUS statement!?!?! First, if he wins out thats GREAT we go
to the playoffs. This is bad?? Were in danger of missing them now. Second, is there anyone out there who REALLY
believed that Kordell would STAY hot the rest of the season?? Trap didnt think so. Another game or two, and back to Tommy, was
Traps thinking. Cowherd would have
been much better served by riding the Kordell wave, and when Korky went cold,
immediately bring Tommy back to play hero again. Whats Cowherd got now???
A hot QB on the bench, and a cold QB whos had two of the worst games in
franchise history back-to-back. Not a
good poker hand. At this point, Cowherd
cant even draw to an inside straighthes gotta take 3 cards and PRAY.
Trap was impressed with Big Jason the first series of the
game. The man finally came to
play. Now, if one of the coaches could
just get this message to him before this weeks game: Jason, football games last 60 minutes, not three.
The Bettis Weight Alert is now at 285and eating.
Speaking of fat, Casey Hampton is carrying his around quite
well. He is developing into our most
consistent lineman, and there should be some consideration to keeping him on
the field on ALL downs. His pocket push
cant help but energize a feeble rush on third downs. Not to mention, close the passing lanes. Privately, Trap still worries that this
young man is way too young to be putting on the kind of tonnage he is, and Trap
worries that he will not stay healthy the length of his contract.yikes.
Trap thinks that James Farrior had a coming out party versus
the Texans, and that he will be the demon the front office thought it was
getting the rest of the way home. Along
with Bells steadily improving play, this bodes well for the Stillers making
the playoffs. With Porter, Farrior, and
Bell all clicking, at least 75% of our backing corps will be pounding the
opposition at the same time for the first time this season.
Dont tell Trap about Plexs catching mechanicsTraps been
saying that since he was a rook.
Apparently, the coaches have a special game film that we arent privy
to, that shows Plex with excellent mechanics.
Sorry, every film Trap has ever seen shows Plexs with a disdain for
catching balls with his hands. Kudos to
Kenny Jackson for not teaching him otherwise!?!?
That said, Trap maintains that the Plex pick in the first
round was the correct one.
Pennington? PUH-leaze. The Ken Anderson of the 2000s. High percentage completions no
yardage. Trap thinks hes a one-year
wonder, anyway.
Might be crazy, but Trap likes Dave Ragone as a sleeper pick
in round two for the Stillers.
Nobody asked me, but Traps still saying that the BEST way
to beat a run-blitz is with pop passes to the tight end. The idea is to have the tight end run to the
spot the run-blitzer just vacated.
Complete 4 or 5 of these, and the run-blitzing stops. Problem is, you have to have that play in your
playbook, so I guess Ill have to watch Manning throw it to Pollard, instead of
Maddox throwing it to 2-Man L
Speaking of blitzes, is Trap crazy, or does Tommy Maddox
throw the SAME hot-read pass on every blitz???
No wonder Glenn knew it was coming.
You know, there are actually SOME teams that throw a long LOB pass down
the sidelines as a hot-read outlet.
Hard to believe, huh? Would
Field Goal Bill ever advocate or allow that?
Naaahhhhh.
One last thoughta MANTRA from Trapa long INT is the same
as a punt. Field Goal Bill, are you
listening??? Trap maintains the best
play of the game in last years playoff win against the Ravens was the long INT
Kordell threw that the Ravens picked on their own 4-yard line. The defense bottled them up, and they lost
field position the rest of the half.
And the sickening way Joshboy is punting, a long INT is BETTER than a
punt
Think about it.
