Stillers - Iggles Postgame Analysis and Grades

The 10-3 Stillers mosied east to face the 11-2 Eagles, where the Stillers hadn’t won since 1965.

Eagles jumped out to a 17-3 lead, mid 2Q.  PIT clawed back with 10 points, making it 17-13 at the half.  But Philly took the 2H kickoff and marched for a FG, and then turned a Harris fumble into a long 13 play TD drive that pretty much put the game out of hand.

Grades:

QB:   Wilson got the start.

Overthrew a triple-covered Jefferson, 3d & 7, first series. Good TD pass to Fryboy, late 2Q.

9 of 16, 67 yards, in a grisly 1H.   Were it not for the 11 play TD drive, the 1H would have been a complete disaster.

The 2H wasn’t much better, although, due to a Najee fumble and a softee defense that allowed PHL to chew eons of clock, the O didn’t have the ball much at’all.     Still, not a good game by Wilson, who had 3 passes deflected at the LoS and was spotty with his passing.  (14 of 22, 128. yards)    D

Fields – Ran a designed keeper for about 8, and got a ticky tack pers foul on Philly when he slid extremely late and the safety made a good tackle.  This was his lone play.

RB:

Harris  –  5 rushes, 7 yards in the 1H.  Clumsily dropped a perfect pitch, 3Q, causing an ugly turnover that PHL converted into a TD.  6 rushes for 14 yards.    D

Warren –   3 rushes, 6 yards, 1H.   Had 4 rushes for 12, and 1 grab for 3.    Wasn’t used nearly enough.

Cord Patt – ran a plunge, early 4Q, for 5.  Grabbed a flare, two plays later, for -1 yards.

FB:

WR:

Pickens – sat out again, due to the ham.

Van Jeff – flagged for illegal motion, late 1Q.  Grabbed a pass, 2d & goal on the 7, and LOST a yard.  Technically the NFL ruled it no gain.    This was his lone grab of the game.    F

Austin – took a foolish, silly per foul after the whistle, with the Stillers facing a 2nd & 3 at the PHL 4 yard line.   Grabbed a 31 yard pass, 3Q, on a flea flicker.  Grabbed a slant for 9 yards, 4Q.  Had 5 grabs for 65, which wasn’t nearly enough in Pickens’ absence.  As I’d been saying since March, PeePee ain’t an NFL WR2.  Ain’t even close.    C+

Skowronek – gained 17 yards on a catch n run, 2Q.  This was his lone grab.

Mike Williams – grabbed a 15 yard in on 3d & 19, 4Q.  Mostly rotted on the bench.

TE:

Pat FryBoy –  grabbed a 2 yard pass, first series.  Good TD grab, 2:34 2Q.  Fumbled late 2Q, but luckily recovered it.  Had 3 grabs for 22, which ain’t nearly enough given his fatty contract extension signed just before the season began.    C-

Darnell – not involved at all in the passing game.

Con Heyward –  See Darnell.

OL:  Overall, the line (Moore, Seumalu, Frazier, McCormick, Jones) had a rough game against a stout Phil front 7.   The running game got swallowed up on most plays, and there was some harassment on the QB.

Moore got whipped for a sack, 1Q.  Then was flagged for a hold, late 1Q.  Jones got whipped for a sack, late 2Q, which at the time took the team out of FG range.

Frazier was flagged for tripping, early 4Q, on a 1st down run that gained 6.   All in all, after weeks of facing flaccid defenses, this unit got a real litmus test today, and failed miserably.   D-

DL:

Heyward –  had an easy sack of Hurts, first series, but clumsily whiffed and Hurts was able to lumber forward for positive yardage.  Got taken for a ride by Barkley, 2nd series, allowing an extra 3 yard on a 7 yard carry.   Very poor.   Had one measly solo the entire 1H.

Drew a holding flag, 3Q.  Totally vacated his responsibility, 3:00 3Q,. allowing Hurts ro run thru a HUGE hole up the middle for a big gain of 23 yards.  Finished a measly 2 solos and 3 As while getting his butt beaten all over the field.    D

Ogunjobi –  sat out due to injury.

Adams – returned to the active roster.  Did little…although he had 2 solos, just as many as Big Scam Heyward.

Lowdermilk - stole oxygen.

Benton – 0 solos, 3 As.   Ain’t good enough.   He’s not a rookie any more.    C

LB:

Queen – Got completely juked out of his job, 2:40 1Q, on a Hurts keeper for 7 yards.  Poor job, on 3d & 9 late 3Q, whiffing miserably and allowing a 1st down to the PIT 1 yard line.  Hsad a lot of paper stats (6 solos, 5 As), but failed time and time again to make key stops when they were needed.  Make more, do more.    D

Landon Rob – got abused, first play of game, on a pass to the TE good some 20 yards.  Had 3 solos.   C

Watt – solo stop of Barkley, first series.  Forced a fumble of Hurts after a scramble, 2nd series, for a big turnover.  Nailed Hurts for a sack, late 2Q.  Got nicked up, 6:00 4Q.  One of the few Stillers who showed up today and played like a man.     A-

Highsmith – got a slop assist on a stop of Hurts after a short gain on a scramble, first series.   Slanted in basically unblocked, 2d series, and got a solo stop. For a 2 yard loss.   Got a solo, late 1Q,  TWENTY TWO yards down the field as Barkley rambled for a huge gainer.

Got a Dong assist when Hurts bobbled the high snap on a 1st & goal play, 10:53 2Q.   DONG Sack, Alex Fraudsmith, on last play of 1H.  Hurts saw nothing, and literally just smartly laid down to avoid any fumble.  Fraudsmith was the closest, and got the DONG Sack for doing jak fuq nothing.    Had 4 solos, 2 A in the 1H.

Got a slop stop on a 5 yard run by Barkley, 10:00 4Q.  Gopt savagely mauhled and dominated on a key 3d & 2 run by Barkley, run RIGHT AT The Big Fraud, 7:39 4Q, good for 7 yards.

Came down the line, UNBLOCKED, and got a solo at 3:15 4Q on a run to the right by Barkley.   Like Queen, had a lot of paper statistics but did very, very little of real value.    C

Herbig – got a puny amount of PT.   Mostly rotted the bench.  Had 1 solo.   Inc.

Pay Wilson – had 3 solos and 3 As, but was never around to make an actual play.

Pres Smith – Saw some PT, did nothing.

DB

Joey Porter Jr. -   Got bullied and manhandled by AJ Brown on 2 receptions, 1Q.  Got torched by Brown on a key 3d & 5, 4Q, from the PHL 7 yard line, which gained 28 yards.  Porter has been feasting all season on inept QBs and/or inept WRs.    Today, he faced a legit QB/WR combo, and got used and abused.    D-

Donte Jackson – Got juked out of his jock strap on a flare pass, 1Q.   Late in the 1Q, got completely abused for a 5 yard TD pass.   3d &  7, early 2Q, got abused for the catch, and whiffed miserably on the tackle, for a 17 yard gain.   Got dinged up, 10:53 2Q, and did not return.   For the time he played, he earned a D-.

Kazee – helped stop Hurts on a 2d & goal run, 2Q.

DeShon Elliot – sat out due to injury.  Was sorely and severely missed.

Minkah -  injured Barkley with a clean tackle, 1st half.   Slashed in and dropped Barkley for a 3 yard loss, 5:30 4Q.  Those were his only 2 solos of the game.   Wasn’t nowhere near good enough today.     D

Bishop – did little.

Pierre – got abused for a 2-yard TD pass, mid 2Q.   Also got abused on a few other plays, and then did a hip-drop tackle late in the game that should remove around $20K from his paycheck.   C

Spec teams:

Waitman –   good hold on a low FG snap, late 2Q.  Good pooch punt, 4Q.   A

Boswell – booted 2 FGs in the 1H, including a 49 yarder.

The punt overage team forced a fumble, 1Q, which gave the Stillers golden FP.   Poor punt coverage, early 2Q.

PHL booted a 48-yard FG, 3Q, but Montravius Adams was flagged for roughing the long snapper, giving Philly a new series of downs at the PIT 15.   Luckily, the D held and PHL settled for a FG.

In a fit of hilarity, during a Stiller punt, 4Q, Connor Heyward got literally slapped about the head as though he were a scrawny, pencil-necked dweeb on the school playground, by an Eagle.    Hilarious!   Ya know yer a complete scrubeenie when opposing players do this sort of fool stunt.

OC:  Art Smith had been the talk of the town, amid facing loads of soft, flaccid defenses all season long.  Today, he met a legit defense, on the road no less.

Opened the game with three 3 & outs.  Then, a 3 & FG from the PHL 11 yard line.  TWO total yards, 1Q !

3d & 18, early 2Q …..3 yard dumpoff to Warren.  LMAO.

The O finally got it in gear, mid 2Q, after PHL went up 17-3.   From their own 30, the O marched for a nice 11-play TD drive, and then tacked on a FG late in the half.

The 2H was brutal.   Only 2 drives, with one ending on a Harris fumble on King Arthur’s FAVORITE play (the toss sweep), and the other went 24 yards on 7 plays for a punt.   The drab, Cro Magnon game plan of line plunges on 1st down in the 1Q, doomed this team from the start.   D-

DC:   Austin, too, had been feasting on cupcake and soft cream, facing a bevy of offenses that were either riddled with injury, rust, ineptitude, or all three.   Today, he finally faced a complete offense, and he got completely assbeaten by the PHL offense.

PHL marched easy as pie, opening march, for a chipshot FG.  Philly lost 2 fumbles in the 1H, but still managed to rumble for two TDs.   The 2H was miserable, as PHL had a long FG march; a long TD march, and then a 10-1/2  minute drive that closed out the game, after PHL began on its own 3 yard line.  THAT was as soft n’ sickening as it gets.   Many folks bemoan the Najee fumble.  It occurred on the PHL 26.   FFS, go out there with the highest paid D in the NFL and make stop.  Force a punt.   Instead, this vaunted D got gashed for a 13 play, 74 yard TD drive that put the game mostly pout of reach.   Austin has THE highest paid Def unit in the league, and got clapped and tooled allll game long.   F

HC:  Mike Asslin was beaming with bravado coming into this game.   All that bravado got rudely clapped out of Momlin after this brutal assbeating.

Watt got a sack at 1:55 2Q, but Stoogelin, ever the dummy, failed to call an immediate TO, allowing some 25 seconds to tick away.

Then, down 14 points with 10:30 left in the game, Big Mike punts on 4th and 7 at midfield.  Cowardly move by a complete coward.   All talk, no action.    F-

Synopsis:  This was a severe assbeating by the Iggles; far worse than the final score indicates.  The Steelers have feasted on kreme n' krimpet all season long. Today, they faced a big dawg, and got their asses kicked and whipped.  Highest paid defense in the NFL got gashed alllll game long.  Offense had a horrendous first 20 minutes of the game, and sputtered in the 2H.  The first real litmust test of the season, and the team failed miserably.  Next up, a Saturday tilt at Balt.
