Tharpe Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #5, vs. NYJ)
Stiller backup tackle Larry the Lardboy Tharpe is this weeks winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
Tharpe entered the game when starting RT Shar Pourdanesh went down late in the 1st quarter. Tharpe responded with a solid, hard-nosed effort that allowed the Stillers to play smashmouth football with a grinding running game. Tharpe helped open up holes on the left side of the Jet front 7, enabling Bus and Fu to run thru nice creases for good yardage. Tharpe also acquitted himself more than adequately on pass protection, refusing to get abused the way Piss Conrad and Anthony Brown continually were abused at RT last season. What made Tharpes effort all the more impressive, was that he was able to get the job down despite the enormous girth that hes carrying around. The rolls of blubber protruding from his gut looked as though he was hiding several hoagies underneath his jersey. And judging from his belly, he apparently chows down on several hoagies at 3 or 4 junctures during each day. Nevertheless, when a 3rd string tackle can enter a game against a solid defense and hold his own, enabling his offense to jam the ball down the opponents throat and keep pass-rushers at bay, hes getting the job done in an effective manner.
Kudos to Tharpe for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Larry!!
