Best Bet (plus two)

October 20, 2010 by Steel Haven

A frustrating push on my best bet prevented my first undefeated week of the season. Three lost fumbles kept the game depressingly close. My other two picks were much needed laughers.

Despite the poor start I actually sort of felt confident about my picks last week. Not this week. If I was smart I would probably take the week off. So let me just throw some shit against the wall and see if anything sticks.

Best Bet

Atlanta Falcons (-3.5) over Cincinnati Bengals

The Falcons return home after getting embarrassed in Philadelphia. The Bengals come back from their bye after a tough loss to the Browns wondering whether Carson Palmer is shot. My bet is the Falcons bounce back. Palmer.... Not so much.

Others

Washington Redskins (+3.0) over Chicago Bears

Competent coaching and QB play can turn a team around. That seems to have happened in Washington. The Redskins have played everyone tough. The Bears are starting to fall back to earth after a hot start. Mike Martz's offense is getting Jay Cutler killed.

San Fransisco 49ers (-3.0) over Carolina Panthers

OK, this is flat out stupid. The Niners got their first win of the season at home after trailing to the awful Raiders at halftime. They are the most overhyped team of the season and the praise they have been getting for scoring 14 second half point against a bad opponent is ridiculous. Now they travel cross country for a 1 pm game. Matt Moore returns to the lineup for the clearly over matched Jimmy Clausen and could provide a spark. I just don't really like any other picks this week. And the Panthers flat out stink.

Last Week

Indianapolis Colts (-3.0) over Washington Redskins PUSH

New Orleans Saints (-4.5) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers WIN

Tennessee Titans (-3.0) over Jacksonville Jaguars WIN
