Pro Football, Weakly

Pro Football, Weakly:

Ive long since given up on TSN and Street. Now, it looks like PFW is down the tube too.First, we had their ridiculous assertion that Jason Gildon is the 6th best LB in football.Thats nonsense; some here may say that Gildon is, at best, the Steelers 6th LB, solidly ahead of Kurpeikis and Fiala, if not Foote. Leaving that, consider the AFC North corps including Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware, Takeo Spikes and Jamir Miller not to mention Porter and Bell.I understand that Lewis and Miller are hurt now, but presuming they come back strong, Gildon isnt even the 6th best at his position within the weakest division in football.

Thats old news; now, we have the demented notion that Coach Cowher should have brought Kordell on to hurl the Steelers last best hope Sunday.Very solid reasoning that; Maddox had only 420 yards passing in the game; Kordell had been standing around all day.I guess, the geniuses at PFW were remembering Stews heroic heave to Westbrook way back when. That happened in 1994, eight freaking years ago!Great play; its over; let it go.Maybe the Steelers should have gotten Cal Berkeleys band of the same era (give or take a decade) out on the field to scrum the Falcon prevent; maybe the Steelers should have had a zombie Sid Luckman chuck it up.Or the ghost of Slingin Sammy; heres the call:

Baugh

back from the dead

back to throw

Great stuff for George Romero but not so good for the NFL.Coach Cowher can be criticized for many tactical blunders but that wasnt one.Besides, if he had brought Kordell out, well, Id be shopping for a new TV tonight.Maddox is the guy and, in fact, Maddox put that ball exactly where it had to be for Spike Two to go and make a play.Burress closed on that pass; he didnt come back for it.The ball was perfectly thrown; you could make the argument that Tommy could have gone underneath to Randle-El, giving that man a chance to run it in from the 10 or so; you cannot make the argument that Tommys arm strength was at issue.

Note: I have no idea whether or not Mr. Baugh and/or Mr. Luckman are still up on this side of the sod.If they are, or if one is, well, I apologize for intimating their demise. If not, well, no disrespect is intended, not to that HOF duo anyway. As for PFW, well, presuming those old-time QB are long gone, then, IMO, the worms theyve been feeding are quite a bit brighter than anyone writing for that mag, these days.
