Fuamatu-Maafala Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #14, vs. Detroit)
Stiller RB Chris Fuamatu-Maafala is the winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
The fourth-year RB from Utah started against the Lions and responded with his best career NFL effort, leading the Stiller offense in the win over Detroit. Fu rumbled for 126 yards on 26 carries, and added 54 yards of receiving with a spectacular effort off a screen pass, in which he busted through 3 tackles en route to the long gainer. Fu ran hard and with authority, and punished many a Lion tackler who was left in Fus wake. Fu, who is only now, in his 4th season, seeing any kind of regular PT after seeing only meager spot duty and 3rd down draws the past 3 seasons, also read the blocking well and mixed sound patience with abrupt cuts and hole-hits. Fu also hustled downfield like a demon on the deep out completed to Ward at 11:00 of the 3Q, and hit a defender to help Ward gain a few more yards on this 25-yard gainer. This kind of hard-nosed play is what the Hard Hat is all about, and is what makes the Hard Hat Award the coveted award that it is.
Kudos to Chris for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Fu !!
