Rnk | LW | Team | Record | Comments |
1. | 1. | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 1-0 | Nothing has apparently changed for the Bucs. The manhandling of the Eagles in Philadelphia was an impressive early season statement. |
2. | 4. | Tennessee Titans | 1-0 | McNair is already suffering from a sprained MCL. George once again looked a step slow despite reportedly being in his best shape in years. And it just doesn't seem to matter. The Titans managed to avenge last seasons AFC Championship game loss to the Raiders and look poised to take control of the AFC South this week against Indianapolis. |
3. | 11. | Pittsburgh Steelers | 1-0 | The Black and Gold take a huge leap up the charts with their complete dominance of divisional rival Baltimore. Maddox and the receivers are in midseason form. Porter is healing quickly and could legitimately return by the third game. Scott and Washington remain the biggest concerns, but for a week at least optimism reigns in Pittsburgh (and at stillers.com). |
4. | 13. | Buffalo Bills | 1-0 | There seems to be a bit of a changing of the guard atop the AFC. After an emotional first week the Bills need to remember to show up in Jacksonville before heading further south to take on divisional rival Miami. |
5. | 14. | Kansas City Chiefs | 1-0 | The Rams won the Super Bowl in Vermeil's third year. I am not sure this team is capable of that, but things are clearly looking up. Holmes is happy and seemingly healthy. Maybe even more important was the improved play of the defense against Tomlinson and the Chargers. |
6. | 12. | New York Giants | 1-0 | Collins, Barber, and Toomer all deserve more recognition. Especially Barber. The defense battered Warner into submission. |
7. | 6. | Oakland Raiders | 0-1 | Losing to the Titans by less than a TD in Tennessee is not a disgrace. A home game against the Bengals gives the Raiders an opportunity to recover. |
8. | 8. | Indianapolis Colts | 1-0 | Getting shut down by the Browns suspect defense has to be a concern. Shutting down the potent Browns passing attack has to be considered a pleasant surprise. |
9. | 9. | Atlanta Falcons | 1-0 | Johnson looks good enough to hold things together until Vick returns. |
10. | 2. | Philadelphia Eagles | 0-1 | The Eagles performance on Monday night reminds me of the Steelers in 2002. All they thought about in the off season was the team that beat them at home to get to the Super Bowl the year before. Then they laid an egg in the rematch. The Eagles are too good not to rebound, but the lack of a go to weapon for McNabb will continue to haunt this team in the big game. |
11. | 9. | New England Patriots | 0-1 | One would have to think that in retrospect Belicheck believes cutting Milloy just days before the first game only to see him sign with the opening week opponent was not such a good idea. |
12. | 17. | Seattle Seahawks | 1-0 | My sleeper team. The offensive skill position talent picked up where they left off in the second half of last season. The defense easily handled the explosive Saints. |
13. | 21. | San Fransisco 49ers | 1-0 | I'll reserve judgement on the Niners. Blowing out Stewart and the Bears is not really all that impressive. |
14. | 22. | Denver Broncos | 1-0 | The good news.... The Broncos won a laugher in their opener at Cincinnati. The bad news.... Jake Plummer threw 3 interceptions and had a total of 115 yards passing. |
15. | 15. | Carolina Panthers | 1-0 | Delhomme looks like a gamer. If he continues to develop the Panthers could be very dangerous. |
16. | 24. | Minnesota Vikings | 1-0 | Made a major statement by beating their toughest divisional rival on the road. I am still concerned about the secondary, but Culpepper and Moss can make up for alot of other short comings. |
17. | 3. | Green Bay Packers | 0-1 | Green Bay's week one loss to the Vikings in Lambeau Field threw the NFC Central into turmoil. The schedule makers have given the Pack every opportunity to rebound. Their next three games are against the Lions, Cardinals, and Bears. |
18. | 5. | St. Louis Rams | 0-1 | Were Warner's 6 fumbles the result of a first half concussion or lingering problems with his thumb? The answer won't come for at least another week with Bulger scheduled to start in what shapes up as a must win game against divisional rival San Fransisco. |
19. | 7. | Miam Dolphins | 0-1 | The annual Dolphin collapse usually isn't scheduled until December. Repeat after me coach Wannstedt, with a lead in the 4th quarter it is a better idea to put the fate of the team in the hands of Williams than Fiedler. |
20. | 25. | Washington Redskins | 1-0 | I'm still not sold on the Skins, although Spurrier's willingness to lean on Betts and the running game when needed was a step in the right direction. |
21. | 16. | New Orleans Saints | 0-1 | Haslett's poor personel decisons have really hurt the defense. He could be in for a long year. |
22. | 23. | Cleveland Browns | 0-1 | The defense played surprisingly well after losing alot of talent. On the other hand, the offense in general and Holcomb in particular were a major disapointment. If Holcomb continues to struggle with Couch on the bench it could end up causing dissension. |
23. | 18. | San Diego Chargers | 0-1 | Last years 6 - 2 start is looking more and more like an aberation. |
24. | 19. | Baltimore Ravens | 0-1 | Boller needs time to develop, which really isn't a surprise. The bigger issue is that the defense is a shell of it's former self. |
25. | 20. | New York Jets | 0-1 | Hackett and Testeverde mix like oil and water. |
26. | 28. | Detriot Lions | 1-0 | Harrington to Rogers gives the Lions some hope for the future. |
27. | 31. | Houston Texans | 1-0 | The shock of the week wasn't so much the Texans winning in Miami as much as the Dolphins failure to record a single sack. The much maligned Houston offensive line deserves kudos. |
28. | 27. | Jacksonville Jaguars | 0-1 | Brunell still has some life left in him. Unfortunately for the Jags the defense needs alot of work. |
29. | 26. | Dallas Cowboys | 0-1 | Parcells looked disgusted on the sidelines watching Carter continually misfire. What did he expect? |
30. | 29. | Cincinnati Bengals | 0-1 | Same old Bungles. I know that Lewis does not want to throw Palmer to the wolves, but playing Kitna is a waste of time. |
31. | 32. | Arizona Cardinals | 0-1 | Giving up 42 points to the anemic Lions is not a good sign. At least Blake to Boldin gave Cardinals fans (all four of them) something to cheer about. |
32. | 30. | Chicago Bears | 0-1 | What a mess. Stewart was abysmal, but this is not his fault. Urlacher and Booker are the only above average players on the roster. |
