Hard
Hat Award (Game #14, vs. Minn)
The entire Stiller defense is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the
iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast
furnace of a still mill.
The Stiller defense collectively rose to the occasion in
Minnesota this past Sunday, pounding and stonewalling the Vikings the entire
afternoon. The Dkyes had 1 measly
scoring drive -- a FG drive, at that -- that went all of 1 yard, from the
Stiller 3 to the Stiller 2. Thus
repelled after such golden FP created by an El muffed punt, all the Dykings
could do was kick a piddly field goal. Unlike
most of the season -- especially the past 3 weeks -- the defense was swarming;
fighting off and through blocks; punishing ballcarriers; and dictating the
terms of play by seizing the initiative on virtually every play. The D-line was stingy and manhandled the
Vike O-line. The LBs were swarming and wreaking
havoc all day. The secondary allowed no
big plays (the longest reception was 21 yards) and busted up several passes
that otherwise would have been easy receptions.
This is the first time in the illustrious history of The Award
that an entire unit has been the recipient of this prestigious honor, but The
Committee felt that the combined efforts of the defense were simply too good to
give the award to just one man.
Kudos to the entire defense for winning the weekly Hard
Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat
proudly, gents!

(Note: Stillers.com will pay tribute to Steve Courson this
season by placing "77" in the Hard Hat Award article each week. Courson, as most of you certainly recall,
was the ultimate Hard Hat kind of player. Tough, dependable, and versatile. Stillers.com will also pay tribute to Army
Sergeant First Class Brent Adams, a longtime Stillers fan and Pittsburgh native
who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country while serving on point for the
nation in Iraq. SFC Adams died on duty
in Iraq on Dec. 1st, 2005, and his obituary can be read at this link. Brent represents the values of the Hard Hat,
and as such, Stillers.com will place a "B.A." in the Hard Hat
article the rest of the season in tribute to this great American.)
