Cowherd the Cowardand
other musings from the Mind like a Steel Trap
-
Field Goal Bill used last
weeks game against the Falcons to put the rest ANY notion that he has ANY
in-game intelligence AT ALL. Without
question, he has none. His turtling on
offense was pathetic and shameful. His
soft prevent defense on third downs, and much of the last two quarters was
downright nauseus. Decisions on
timeouts, clock management, challenges, and penalty-acceptance were
disastrous. The man is simply and
totally an in-game idiot. Now, there
can be no doubts.
-
Some advice to Tim
Lewis: I re-watched the game, and went
through many defensive plays in slow motionthe REAL problem goes deeper than
Lewiss foolish 3-man rush on third downs.
The real problem is that the rush is designed such that the middle opens
like Moses parting the Red Sea! The
blockers EASILY funnel the rushers off to the sides, and the QB has a HUGE lane
up the middle to not only run, but to see the entire field developing with no
obstructions. Im wondering if Fat
Casey would be a better fit rushing STRAIGHT UP THE MIDDLE on third
downs? It would be very difficult for
the offensive lines to funnel him off to the sides. Pocket push by Hampton would at least obstruct the view of the
field
-
I also noticed in the tapes
that Kendall Simmons is acquitting himself EXTREMELY well. He never gives up, he is incredibly strong,
and he runs downfield to pick up more blocks.
The man is a keeper of the highest degree, and if he stays off the Casey
Hampton Diet, he should only get better.
-
Also picked up on tape: I saw no player jog and loaf more than Jason
Gildong. This is an unbiased
observation. If the play goes the other
way, the man jogs or loafs. Its a
simple fact.
-
Also picked up on tape: unfortunately, Brent Alexander is actually
ten times WORSE than we all know he is.
He is beyond abominable. How
this man can sit through film sessions without experiencing total embarrassment
is beyond me! He cant tackle, and he
is about two steps slow with help in the secondary.
-
That said, the man who was
drafted to step into the secondary, Chris Hope, is truly hopeless. I watched him on tape pussy-out on special
teams more than Big Jason does during the game. OK- not THAT much, but pretty close. He is afraid to hit, has no strength, and seems
disinterested. He is clearly a
liability on special teams, and looks like a major bust. His blitz from the secondary late in the
game was shameful. He ran in, met the
block, and stood there watching Vick!?!?
Having him on the field for that play was worthless.
-
I have to wonder why the
staff rushed Hartings back from injury when Chuky Okobi played so well last
week? Hartings allowed pressure, and
was not drive blocking like he usually does.
Plus, the atrocious field couldnt have helped his injury.
-
By the way, you wont hear
this mentioned ANYWHERE, but the REAL boneheadedness of Cowherd happened with
the score at 31-17. The master turtle,
Cowherd, got down to the Falcons 25-yard line, and called for Zeroue to run
plays that kept the ball in the middle of the field for guess what? a FIELD
GOAL. He had NO INTENTION WHATSOEVER of
getting a touchdown. I watched this
series, and puked twice. After Peterson
Kicks the field goal, the cameras showed Cowherd beaming with pride over the
field goal. He had the this game is
over look. Sorry, Bill, but field
goals do not ice games touchdowns do.
-
Again after re-watching the
tape I have MAJOR CONCERNS that Tommy Maddox may be a branch off the
Schottenheimer family tree. Tommy
seemed to follow Bill in his ass-puckering as he went into the fourth
quarter. His passes were no longer
zipped they were AIMED. He started
tossing darts in the bar instead of football in the stadium. It was clear that he was under strict
instructions to play it safe. Then he
throws the INT. No surprise here. The man has an average arm, and once you
start aiming and telegraphing to play it safe, you become ripe for an
interception. As Nick79 has pointed
out many times, the attitude of Cowherd and his cowardly ways ends up filtering
down to the players, most susceptibly the quarterback.
-
The play called and executed
on third down when we tried to run out the clock in the 4th quarter
was the most cowardly, ill-conceived, pussified play I have ever seen in
watching football for over 30 years.
Two running plays to Zeroue on 1st and 2nd downs,
and the Stillers lined up 4 wides.
Three of the receivers are just decoys, and the play calls for Hines to
run a little slant from his slot position.
Maddox does a semi-roll to the right Hines is running AWAY from the
roll to the left. The play is ALREADY
an abortion, as it requires Maddox to throw back AGAINST the grain to Hines
running AWAY from the pass. The
abortion becomes worse, as Hines runs into an area occupied by a linebacker and
a safety. The abortion turns to a
goatfuk when Maddoxs pass is toss that is aimed, and travels at the speed of
Mark Madden running (not very fast).
The pass is low, the pass is slow, the linebacker is pouncing. Needless to say, the pass is incomplete
(thank God not worse), and Field Goal Bill has to punt. This play typifies the classic Cowherd
mentality of playing not to lose.
-
I re-watched the Randle El
fumble about 12 times. Im STILL trying
to figure out HOW the referee determines that Simenoue has the ball? Randle comes out with it!?!? WTF?
-
Trap told all of yunz that
Randle would be special.
-
Chad Scott would be an
amazing safety. Probably a Pro
Bowler. But can we pay a safety $5
million a year???
-
Pee Showers must go. There are other safeties out there, either
in the draft, or in the free agent market who can bring what he brings to the
table, with a smaller grocery bill.
-
Im starting to think that we
need to keep Wayne Gandy. Talk about an
unsung hero? The man just makes
blocks. It scares me to think of any
other lineman out there playing his position for 16 games.
-
Zeroue cannot be the
every-down back. He is well worth
keeping, and I like him a LOT, but he does not give you what Bettis gives
you. The man has more 4-yard losses
than Barry Sanderswho was a fairly decent back in his day!
-
Last note: Whats worse???? Cowherds cowardice, or Petersons kicking???????
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..Trap
thinks he has a headache.
