Bettis Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #8, @ Clev.)
Stiller RB Jerome Bettis is the winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
The tubby tailback had a big day on the ground over the Cleve Brownies, rushing for 163 yards on 29 rushes. Much of his yardage came after he busted through initial hits and kept on chugging. Bettis was at his best in overtime, when he carried nearly the entire load (7 of 8 plays) to move the ball into easy range for the game-winning FG. Amongst the highlights was The Bus's stiff-arm of a hapless Cleveland defender toward the end of a long run.
Kudos to Jerome for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Jerome !!
