Rnk | LW | Team | Record | Comments |
1. | 1. | Kansas City Chiefs | 7-0 | Hung on Monday night in Oakland by a yard. Should almost be able to coast to a division championship With a 2 game lead over injury depleted Denver and a 5 game lead over struggling Oakland. |
2. | 3. | Minnesota Vikings | 6-0 | Tice remains the lowest paid head coach in the NFL, at $750K making almost 4 times less than Green is paid to sit at home. |
3. | 4. | Indianapolis Colts | 5-1 | James is expected to play for the first time in a month coming off the bye. He should be able to get back into the flow of things against the defensively challenged Texans. |
4. | 11. | Tennessee Titans | 5-2 | Obliterated the previously undefeated Panthers in Carolina. Despite suffering through a couple of poor performances, when firing on all cylinders look almost unbeatable. |
5. | 2. | Carolina Panthers | 5-1 | Deserve a mulligan after impressive start to the season. Can not afford a letdown in New Orleans. |
6. | 8. | Seattle Seahawks | 5-1 | For the second week in a row caused concern by allowing an inferior opponent back into the game. Need to develop killer instinct. |
7. | 9. | St. Louis Rams | 4-2 | No longer the greatest show on turf with Bulger at the helm and Harris probably starting at RB. That doesn't mean they aren't still potent. |
8. | 10. | New England Patriots | 5-2 | Belichek gets more out of pedestrian talent than any coach this side of Parcells. |
9. | 12. | Dallas Cowboys | 5-1 | Have already beaten the Giants and Eagles, their main competition in the NFC East. Talent is not on par with the top teams and schedule gets tough. Should not be discounted because Parcells has proven he can find a way to win. |
10. | 5. | Miami Dolphins | 4-2 | Need to get Griese on the field. |
11. | 6. | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 3-3 | Inevitable distractions caused by Super Bowl win seem to have taken a toll. |
12. | 7. | Denver Broncos | 5-2 | Injuries mean Kannell will probably start at QB for the next 3 weeks. Expect Portis to get a lot of work. |
13. | 16. | Buffalo Bills | 4-3 | Henry finally broke loose with the specter of McGahee hanging over his head. Rebounded after a stretch of poor games and have a legitimate chance to head into the bye on a high note by handing the Chiefs their first loss. |
14. | 17. | Philadelphia Eagles | 3-3 | Managed to win on a punt return by Westbrook with less than 2 minutes remaining despite the offense only gaining 134 net yards. |
15. | 22. | New Orleans Saints | 3-4 | Beginning to show some signs of life as Brooks again flashes the skills that once had fans in New Orleans excited. |
16. | 23. | San Fransisco 49ers | 3-4 | Avoided falling 3 games under five-hundred by impressively manhandling the defending champions. Need to make sure they don't take their upcoming road game in Arizona for granted. |
17. | 13. | Baltimore Ravens | 3-3 | The good news.... Boller actually showed some ability desperately trying to bring his team back from a big deficit. The bad news.... The vaunted defense was torched by Kitna and the Bengals. |
18. | 14. | Cleveland Browns | 3-4 | Jekyl and Hyde team that has beaten the 49ers and Steelers while losing to the Bengals and Chargers. |
19. | 15. | Green Bay Packers | 3-4 | Head into the bye 3 1/2 games behind the Vikings. Poor personel decisions by Sherman has left this team a shell of it's former self. |
20. | 20. | Pittsburgh Steelers | 2-4 | Bettis is back. In an effort to spur the dormant offense and try to get a poorly performing offensive line back into some sort of rhythm the Bus will return to the starting lineup. I wish I thought it would actually help. |
21. | 24. | New York Jets | 2-4 | Seem to have put their abysmal September in the past. Return of Pennington gives further reason for optimism. |
22. | 18. | Washington Redskins | 3-4 | Spurrier will make some college team a damn fine head coach either next season or in 2005. Cause that's what the Old Ball Coach is.... A superb college coach out of his element in the pros. |
23. | 19. | New York Giants | 2-4 | Led in every imaginable statistical category against the struggling Eagles except for the only one that really matters..... Final score. |
24. | 27. | Cincinnati Bengals | 2-4 | Lewis might have gotten more of an opportunity to enjoy his second win had Dillon managed to keep his mouth shut. |
25. | 21. | Oakland Raiders | 2-5 | Furious comeback led by young QB Tuiasosopo came up a yard short. Be interesting to see if Gannon gets his starting job back after the bye. |
26. | 25. | Houston Texans | 2-4 | Rookie 4th round pick Davis looks like a keeper. |
27. | 32. | San Diego Chargers | 1-5 | After saying he was tired of losing Tomlinson almost singlehandedly carried the Chargers to a win in Cleveland. |
28. | 26. | Detriot Lions | 1-5 | Mariucci seems to be sinking into the morass. The RB corps without Stewart is pedestrian at best. The receiver corps without Rogers is abysmal. Harrington looked very confused against the Cowboys and his dislocated finger seemed to be a major issue. Mariucci will stick with Harrington this week, which is probably the decision I would have also made. Nothing though seems to work out right in Detriot. |
29. | 28. | Atlanta Falcons | 1-6 | Limp into their bye off a disgraceful performance at home against the Saints. Kittner was no more the answer at QB than Johnson. |
30. | 29. | Jacksonville Jaguars | 1-5 | At least Leftwich provides hope. |
31. | 30. | Chicago Bears | 1-5 | Jauron might not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but it is interesting that he only took 6 weeks to figure out Stewart was not the answer at QB. Cowher took 6 years. |
32. | 31. | Arizona Cardinals | 1-5 | Drop to last in the rankings while on a bye. Although not completely fair, this is where they belong. |
