.1.Kansas City Chiefs8-0The last remaining undefeated gets a well deserved bye. While the chances are slim that any team can win 16 straight, it is hard to envision them losing after watching the dismantling of the Bills on Sunday night.
.3.Indianapolis Colts6-1Too good to ignore. I will say it again though.... The real test for Dungy and Manning comes in the playoffs, not the regular season.
.4.Tennessee Titans6-2Head into their bye on an impressive 3 game winning streak.
.7.St. Louis Rams5-2Have done a nice job of reasserting themselves as the class of the NFC despite a string of injuries at RB.
.5.Carolina Panthers6-1Hung in and won an important game on the road against a divisional foe. Can not afford to suffer a letdown this week in Houston against a team that won't roll over for anyone.
.2.Minnesota Vikings6-1McCombs ripped into his players after their first loss. Although he later backed off on his comments, the diatribe reportedly did not go over well in the clubhouse. Wonder if his tirade could have some lingering, negative effects?
.8.New England Patriots6-2Just keep winning despite an injury depleted defense and subpar offensive skill position talent.
.10.Miami Dolphins5-2Griese threw a TD on his first attempt and led the Dolphins to a big first half lead before Wannstedt called off the dogs against the struggling Chargers. Should be interesting to see how Griese handles a real test against the Colts.
.11.Tampa Bay Buccaneers4-3Seemingly righted the ship against the Cowboys. Still can not afford any more off games.
.6.Seattle Seahawks5-2Funny how a single loss can change your perception of a team. After blowing a lead in Cincinnati the Seahawks can not afford to slip up at home against the struggling Steelers.
.9.Dallas Cowboys5-2Failed rather miserably in their first real test at Tampa.
.14.Philadelphia Eagles4-3Suddenly find themselves only a game behind divison leading Dallas.
.12.Denver Broncos5-3Not the same club with Kanell at QB. Plummer can not afford to come back rusty because the Broncos might be a full 4 games out of first place and 2 games behind in the wild card race when he returns.
.13.Buffalo Bills4-4Rumors that Williams would get fired heading into the bye week proved to be false. After the Bills came out flat on Sunday night and got steamrolled by the Cheifs the rumors were actually somewhat believeable.
.17.Baltimore Ravens4-3An ugly team to watch. Billick has not lived up to his reputation as an offensive genius, but he deserves credit for somehow getting this team to win more games than they have lost.
.23.New York Giants3-4Won a game they had to win in Minnesota. Now due to a scheduling quirk get to play a road game this week in their home stadium against the Jets.
.24.Cincinnati Bengals3-4Actually have a decent talent base after years of high draft picks. Lewis has started to install a winnning attitude. If I had to pick a team to win the pathetic NFC North right now it might actually be the Bengals. I can't believe I just wrote that....
.15.New Orleans Saints3-5Overtime loss to divisional rival Carolina makes getting back into the playoff race rather problematic. And missing the playoffs could end up costing Haslett his job.
.19.Green Bay Packers3-4Desperately need a victory this week in Minnesota. That will require Favre to do something he has rarely done.... Play a good game in a dome.
.16.San Fransisco 49ers3-5Letdown in Arizona was inexcuseable.
.18.Cleveland Browns3-5Need to sort out the QB situation. The bye comes at a good time.
.20.Pittsburgh Steelers2-5Something seems to be missing. Actually took a 21-20 third quarter lead before collapsing down the stretch against the Rams. Maddox failed to break out of his funk, throwing for less than 160 yards and getting picked 3 more times. Defensive coordinator Lewis continues to fiddle while the secondary burns. The defense backs do lack talent, but have been left out to dry by the passive schemes.
.21.New York Jets2-5Trying to hurry Pennington back into the lineup resulted in a costly interception and loss.
.22.Washington Redskins3-4The bye week seems to have added to the turmoil. Spurrier is clearly out of his element. And Snyder has yet to figure out that you can't run a pro franchise like a fantasy team. The latest bit of lunacy is bringing in DT Russell coming off his third suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy. A player so over the edge the Raiders didn't want him.
.25.Oakland Raiders2-5Can Tuiasosopo and Porter help kick start the offense? Shouldn't hurt that they get to play the floundering Lions.
.26.Houston Texans2-5Have put together a nice collection of skill position talent with Carr, Davis, Hollings, Johnson, Gaffney, and Bradford. Now they need to work on the offensive line.
.31.Chicago Bears2-5Able to get a win even though A-train and Booker were out with injuries. That is probably more a knock on the Lions than reason to praise the Bears.
.32.Arizona Cardinals2-5Shipp is the real deal.
.29.Atlanta Falcons1-6Demoted the entire secondary due to poor play. Be interesting to see if the move works or if McNabb is able to take advantage of the backups.
.30.Jacksonville Jaguars1-6Already playing more for the future than 2003, which is actually OK for a first year coach that took over a team that was this bad.
.27.San Diego Chargers1-6Tough to stay focused when your home game has to be moved over 300 miles away because the suburbs surrounding the city you play in are on fire.
.28.Detriot Lions1-6Millen and Mornhinweg messed this team up more than I thought. Mooch has alot of work to do.
