Stillers-Raidas Postgame Analysis and Grades

The Stillers hosted the Raidas yesterday, in what turned into a see-saw, barnburner game.  I was in attendance with Sister of Still Mill, so this will be a bit abbreviated.

Grades:

QB:  Ben had a much better game after last week’s debacle.   Still had a miserable, Tomczakian INT in the 4Q that was incredibly sophomoric and foolish.   Hurt his foot when Aldon Smith landed on it in the 4Q, and will likely miss 2 weeks.  Had he scooted to the inside, rather than outside, he probably doesn’t get hit on this play.   A-

Jones – came out of the bullpen in the 4Q of a tight game, and went 4 for 6, including the big play to AB to set up the winning FG.   A

RB:

DeAngelo – started in place of Stutter Bell.   Stupendous effort, with over 200 all-purpose yards.  Excellent chip blocking as well.  Good thing Haley rotted this fellow on the bench when Bell returned….!    A+

Todman – had 1 plunge, for 3 yards.

Archer:  Oh yes, PeePee is gone!!   Lmao !!

FB:

Nix had some sterling lead blocks.  At some point, if not already, it won’t be worth dressing Wilbur Johnson.

WR:

Brownie – set the Stillers single game record with 284 yards receiving, on 17 grabs (both are PIT records)   A+

Pinkie Wheaton – Did nothing at all the entire game despite several targets.  Had 1 grab for, hold your laughter, minus-2 yards.    With PeePee Archer gone, this is my #1 whipping boy.  He sucks ass and creates zero separation.   F

Bryant – incredible Nintendo-like TD, juking 3 tacklers.    Had 3 grabs.    B

Heyward-Gay – did nothing.

TE:

Miller – solid game, with 3 grabs for 32.

Spaeth – thankfully, did not dress, due to injury.

Jesse James – Grabbed a clutch TD, and also made an outstanding block on the Bryant TD.  He looks, oh, at least 8 times better than Pilo Shit Speath.   Meaning he’ll promptly be rooted to the bench, or not even activated, when Spaeth is healthy.     A

OL:

Villenueva – superb block on the Williams 4 yard TD run.   Obviously got bullrushed and bulldogged on the Smith sack that injured Ben.   A shabby, sorry play.  Overall, he played adequately, although he had a lot of chip help.   B-

Foster – marginally ok.

Cody Wallace –  Had a foolish false start penalty.

DeCastro – pretty solid day.  Finally living up to his vaunted pedigree.     A

DL:

Cam Thomas – Got zero snaps.   Thank goodness.   Of course, this becomes a complete waste of a helmet on game day.

McLendon -  saw a lot of snaps and did little.   C

Heyward – active solid game, although he generated little pass pressure.   B-

Tuitt – Returned to action after missing the past coupla week with a knee.   Did very, very little.    Must have still been hobbled.    C

LB:

Timmons – adequate game, although OAK gashed the D with some good ground production.    Tooled on the deep seamer for the tying TD, although I cannot blame an ILB for coverage on a fleet WR.    B-

Shaquier – was fairly active, but I expect more out of this stiff in pass coverage.   Was flagged for a completely bullshit roughing the passer.    B-

Spence –  saw some PT, more than I would have liked.

Moats – saw a fair amount of PT, and generate little pressure.    C-

Harrison – very meager impact.     C-

Jones –  JarStiff did very, very little.    D-

Dupree – small amount of PT and did nothing.

DB

Allen - returned to the starting lineup.   Did little to thwart the downfield passing of OAK.   C+

Mitchell – had a solid FF, but then, with a LIVE football just lying on the grass a few feet away, Bitchell goes and preens & struts, like a damned fool.   Could have had a key fumble recovery, but stupidly was OOB just prior (who knows why??), and the recovery was nullified.   Or, with like 4 other Stillers in the immediate area, he could have simply allowed someone else to recover the pig.   Once again was NOWHERE to be found on deep completions.    C

Gay  -  adequate game.  Blake – mostly played like a feeble, bumbling pansie.    C

Golden – saw some PT.

Sharko Thomas – Not permitted to play on D, because, as you  know, Golden is such a studly safety.  I guess he might get some PT in 2017.      Inc

Blake – lots of yards allowed.

Cockrell – key INT in the EZ, albeit on an awful throw.    B

Boykin – despite being the best cover CB on the roster, this guy unbelievably ROTTED the bench the entire game.

Spec teams:

Jordan Berry – Jordan The Cherry punted ok.    B

Boswell – finally missed his first NFL FG, but hit a few, and also booted the game winner.    B+

Jacoby Jones – played his first game as a Stiller.   Did nothing on KO returns.

AB – shoddy, sloppy muff of a 4Q punt, giving OAK the ball just inside PIT territory.   Poor.     D

Nix – stellar FF in KO coverage when he lit up the KO returner.   Of course, in keeping with Mike Bitchell’s example, and Mike Dumblin’s complete lack of discipline, Nix turns AWAY from the live football and starts prancing and  preening like a complete jackass.

Sharko Thomas’s speed and athleticism drew an illegal block flag on Berry’s first punt.  Of course, with all that speed & athleticism, he never got on the field on defense.

OC:

Offense lit it up, even without L. Bell.   Still peeved at the rotting of D. Williams.   Now Williams, of course, is THE one and ONLY RB, meaning he’ll be run to death, and when he goes down to injury, there will be NO legit NFL RB to play in his stead.       B+

DC:

Keith Assler got lit up by Derek Carr and an ordinary cast of skill players.   The first OAK TD was a foolhardly mis-commo in which nobody covered Cooper on the flag route.   I don’t need to expound all that much on the folly of having a slow-footed ILB cover a fleet WR 35 yards down the seam for what was the game-tying TD late in the 4Q.   Sheer asininity at its worst.   D-

HC:  Mike Dumblin again oversaw the pissing away of a 14 point 4Q lead, at HOME, against a very ordinary offense.   The defense is soft and cheesy.  D

Synopsis:   An exciting home win over an average West coast team.   Had a tremendous time at Scott “Ol’ Johnnie” Walker’s tailgate party, and then at the game with Sister o’ StillMill and Mark “Funner”.    Go Stillers !!
