Power Rankings (week 5)

October 12, 2016 by Steel Haven

Rnk LW* Team Record Comments
1. 2. Minnesota Vikings 5-0 About the only thing they've done wrong so far this season was the equipment manager misspelling veteran DE Griffen's name as Griffin on the back of his jersey last Sunday.
2. 3. New England Patriots 4-1 Brady returned from suspension for his 17th season, now most in franchise history over Grogan's 16.
3. 7. Pittsburgh Steelers 4-1 Roethlisberger's 15 passing TDs are the most in franchise history through 5 games.
4. 4. Green Bay Packers 3-1 Long time defensive coordinator Capers doing the best job of his 8 year tenure in the Frozen Tundra.
5. 5. Seattle Seahawks 3-1 Early bye seems to have come at a good time allowing Wilson and Graham to get healthier although visit from streaking Falcons won't be an easy matchup.
6. 8. Dallas Cowboys 4-1 One more start for Dak before the bye and reported return of Romo. Should take Romo approximately 15 or so minutes of play before another injury puts Dak back on the field.
7. 10. Atlanta Falcons 4-1 Ran roughshod on the road over the top 2 teams in the AFC West handing them both their only defeats so far this season.
8. 1. Denver Broncos 4-1 Lynch proved to not be ready for prime time. Will Siemian be ready on a short work week?
9. 11. Oakland Raiders 4-1 Can shaky defense be fixed?
10. 6. Philadelphia Eagles 3-1 Done in by late Mathews fumble when up by 2 and trying to run out the clock with 2 minutes and change remaining.
11. 17. Buffalo Bills 3-2 Rex and Rob succeeding with ground and pound philosophy after firing offensive coordinator Roman. Defense and running game have turned around their season.
12. 18. Washington Redskins 3-2 Riding a 3 game winning streak.
13. 9. Cincinnati Bengals 2-3 Under .500 after 5 games for the 1st time since drafting Dalton. Trip to Foxboro comes at a bad time for a team that desperately needs a win.
14. 14. Kansas City Chiefs 2-2 Reid is 15-2 coming off the bye in his career after winning his first 13 straight in Philly.
15. 20. Arizona Cardinals 2-3 Needed some breaks on the road coming off a short work week with Palmer injured and Stanton at QB. Niners obliged with unforced penalties, turnovers.
16. 12. Houston Texans 3-2 Osweiler was a pathetic 1 for 13 in 3rd down conversions against the Vikings.
17. 13. Baltimore Ravens 3-2 A seeming Mosley pick 6 became a touchback when the ball slipped out of his hand as he reached for the goal line. Margin of defeat was 6. Not exactly sure how that resulted in firing of offensive coordinator Trestman for uninspiring Mornhinweg.
18. 15. Los Angeles Rams 3-2 Done in by conservative playcalling that led to settling for 3 FGs and only a single TD from the redzone.
19. 16. New York Giants 2-3 McAdoo fell short against his mentor.
20. 24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2-3 Head to bye coming off much needed victory in Carolina. Can they get healthy? Can they catch the Falcons if healthy?
21. 21. Jacksonville Jaguars 1-3 Come off bye with hope thanks to bad division.
22. 22. Indianapolis Colts 2-3 Gore passed the GOAT Brown for 9th in all time career rushing yardage.
23. 29. Tennessee Titans 2-3 A victory this week over the winless Browns and Mullarkey will have exactly twice as many losses as wins in his head coaching career. His career record currently stands 20-42.
24. 30. Detriot Lions 2-3 All their games this season have been decided by a TD or less, 3 by a FG or less.
25. 25. New Orleans Saints 1-3 Can put away division rivals the Panthers this week in the Big Easy.
26. 19. Carolina Panthers 1-4 Suffering from a raging Super Bowl hangover.
27. 23. New York Jets 1-4 Bowles made some crazy bad decisions in Pittsburgh including just in the 4th quarter challenging the spot on a 4th and inches that was clearly short of a 1st down, a punt down 11 with just over 7 minutes remaining from near midfield and a timeout called with the clock already stopped on the Steelers final TD drive.
28. 26. Chicago Bears 1-4 Hoyer is not the answer.
29. 27. San Diego Chargers 1-4 Snakebit. Fumbled a perfect snap on gimme game tying field goal attempt with 2 minutes remaining. Can't make this stuff up.
30. 28. Miami Dolphins 1-4 Dumpster fire blazing unabated. Got no idea if or how 1st year GM Grier and HC Gase are going to turn around this mess.
31. 31. San Francisco 49ers 1-4 Gabbert's record as a starter fell to 9-31, Kelly without much choice will turn to Kaepernick in Buffalo.
32. 32. Cleveland Browns 0-5 Whitehurst became their 5th player to take snaps from center after injury to Kessler. Then he got hurt (but was able to return after Pryor took a few snaps). Whitehurst was subsequently cut so Hogan could be activated off practice squad. Real hope is that McCown will be ready this coming week.
