I rewatched the NFL Fukjob overturn again this morning. About 30 times.
What this play is, is one GIANT misapplication of a jackassed rule...
AND THE COMPLETE BRAINWASHING of America.
The NFL has gone to great lengths over the past 3 years to brainwash the country into what a "catch" really is.
They have been systematic at it, they have been relentless at it, and they have been monotonous at it.
Over and over and over and over --- the NFL REPEATS that a catch has to go "through the process of coming to the ground".
They EVEN re-looked at it in the competition committee and left it exactly the way it was.
This was all VERY ORCHESTRATED in order to blindly brainwash the public such that forever going forward:
EVERY SINGLE CATCH THAT HAS ANY SLIGHT BOBBLE, MOVEMENT, OR GRAZING OF GRASS BLADES
now are SMUGLY - SMUGLY - repeated by every viewer in America as "not a catch", "there was movement".
Like LEMMINGS, these viewers robotically look at every single catch, and say "not a catch" "movement".
COMPLETE JACKASSED STUPIDITY.
Which brings me to THIS catch, which actually WAS A CATCH.
Every catch has to be looked at individually -- NOT through the brainwashed lens the NFL now wants everyone to look.
THIS INDIVIDUAL CATCH WAS NOT - NOT - the same as all the other dumbassed reversals.
Nope, it wasn't.
This particular catch happened AT THE GOAL LINE, and as such, had a much different dynamic.
BY RULE, once the receiver makes the move to be a RUNNING BACK, the catch is over, and all else that happens does so in the context of a RUNNING BACK.
The rule states that the receiver DEMONSTRATES the act of a running back.
There is NO TIME LENGTH attached to that.
James became a RUNNING BACK as soon as he secured the catch and his knee hit.
He then did what every RUNNING BACK does (which I despise) at the goal line, and that is REACH AND LUNGE. Breaks the plane. TD.
What happened on the James play DOES NOT HAPPEN ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE FIELD.
Read that again: DOES NOT HAPPEN ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE FIELD.
On any other part of the field, there is NO LUNGE.
So what happened is that the NFL, the SMUG public, all of them...MISAPPLIED THE RULE. Penalized a running back stretching.
Complete bullshit.
Touchdown.
