Hard
Hat Award (Game #12, vs. Tampa)
Stiller WR Nate Washington is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the
iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast
furnace of a still mill.
Pressed into starting chores due to the inactivation of the
injured Hines Ward, Washington had a solid game and contributed mightily to
what was otherwise a rather morose offense.
Nate finished with 3 catches for a team-high 78 yards, and it wasn't an easy 3 grabs. He snared a seamer for 24 yards in the 2Q
before taking a brutal hit, but toughly held onto the football for a clutch
reception. He caught a deep ball along
the sideline, amidst decent coverage, for 36 yards at the end of the 3Q. He made a fine catch on another deep
sideline pass from the Steeler 1-yard line in the 3Q, but was ruled OOB. Since the DB made significant contact, I
thought this could have been ruled a catch in-bounds, but nonetheless,
it showed good focus and concentration by the young receiver from Tiffin University.
Kudos to Washington for winning the Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Nate!
