Hard
Hat Award (Game #1, vs.
Stiller RB Willie Parker is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best
embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the
blast furnace of a still mill.
Parker got the starting nod for this game, only because
injuries shelved Big Jerome Bettis and Duce
Staley. All summer, the offense had struggled more than a FEMA relief effort. In stepped Parker, who got very little work
in preseason, and voila -- the Stiller offense came to
life against the Titans. He set up the
first TD, taking a screen pass and dashing 48-yards to the Titans 4-yard line. He set up other scores with sterling runs,
and then pounded the rock into the end zone himself, pin-balling off 2
defenders in Hard Hat fashion and landing in the end zone for the TD. The uninitiated fan thinks of Parker as a wimpy
scatback, but as Wilver clearly
showed, he can play smashmouth with the best of
them.
Willie is a breath of fresh air for a stodgy, slowpoke
offense that hasnt seen speed since Christ was a corporal. In fact,
Kudos to Parker for winning the weekly Hard Hat
Award. Wear the Hard
Hat proudly, Willie!
